dementedma · 30/01/2011 16:19

fivegomadindorset · 30/01/2011 16:20

Your Grace

valiumredhead · 30/01/2011 16:20

Oi you? - sorry not much help Grin

woollyideas · 30/01/2011 16:20

Your sirship.

TheFallenMadonna · 30/01/2011 16:23

Bishop.

Your Grace is for Archbishops.

TheFallenMadonna · 30/01/2011 16:23

Or My Lord, if you are feeling fancy.

amerryscot · 30/01/2011 16:23

You would a address them as 'bishop' or 'my lord'.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 30/01/2011 16:25

Formal or social?

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 30/01/2011 16:28

Also diocesan or suffragan?

GrimmaTheNome · 30/01/2011 16:29

This seems like the sort of semi-arcane information anyone with the name 'crosswordaddict' would need to know.Grin

Personally I think I'd just call him Mr whatever.

thelibster · 30/01/2011 16:42

"Bishop" or, more formally, "My Lord Bishop" Not simply, "My Lord"

eaglewings · 30/01/2011 16:45

I say 'hello Bishop David' or what ever his name is, they have always seemed happy with that. The fact you smile at them and talk to them is enough. Don't forget to talk to their wife too if they have one, they are often left sitting on their own....

Pippaandpolly · 30/01/2011 16:46

I would ask - 'what should I call you?' My Grandfather was a Bishop and he usually preempted it with 'Hi, I'm John' :)

CrosswordAddict · 30/01/2011 16:48

Thanks everyone - I'll just stay under the radar and hope he doesn't address me.
GrimmatheNome - I just love your nickname, perhaps you could design a better one for me?

It really depends on the individual. No one would really take offence at the formal address, especially as they are used to it from their more traditional-minded flock, but many prefer not to seem so standoffish and if given the choice would go for something more relaxed.

I'm RC, our current bishop prefers 'Father Firstname' or just 'Father', most other bishops I've met go for 'Bishop Firstname'.

TBH, I go through most of my life without having to address people formally. Unless you have to introduce him to someone else or call him from across a room, you can get away with talking to him without calling him anything in particular.

CokeFan · 30/01/2011 17:04

I would say Bishop .

(especially if you're somewhere with lots of bishops around).

katiestar · 30/01/2011 17:29

Why in AIBU??

ninah · 30/01/2011 17:30

don't forget to kiss his ring

bupcakesandcunting · 30/01/2011 17:33

Mate.

GrimmaTheNome · 30/01/2011 17:39

Crossword - thank you! Well, to get a name like mine you just need to pick on a non-human character you like from a Terry Pratchett (or similar) novel and then hope it's not already in use.

ZZZenAgain · 30/01/2011 17:40

I wouldn't address him directly at all by name probably. Unless you need to introduce him to others, I think you can get around it by just talking as you would to anyone really.

ratspeaker · 30/01/2011 17:43

bupcake Check

S'pose it depends on circumstances
