What were you thinking of baking AuntieP?

Crucial to the judging process.

Ladyofthehousespeaking · 30/01/2011 01:10

Was it frangipani based?

AuntiePickleBottom · 30/01/2011 01:11

based on that YABU Grin

frangipani or frangipane? Can't imagine they sell the first in the local co-op!

Coralanne · 30/01/2011 03:29

If they advertise that they are opened until 12, then they should stay open until 12.

I did the same thing last week. Just needed cream and the shop was closed so drove like a maniac to one 10 minutes away.

Nothing worse than making your mind up to do something and then not being able to do it.

noblegiraffe · 30/01/2011 09:48

But if you get in the door at 12, then spend ages walking around the aisles picking up your shopping, the poor people working on the tills at midnight have to wait for you to finish before they can go home to bed.

If I'm in a supermarket at closing time (at the till, paying for my stuff), it always infuriates me to see people meandering around with their full trolleys, completely ignoring the calls to go to the checkouts. It's so rude.

I was killing time recently waiting for DD to finish gymnastics so popped into New Look at about 7.45pm and was immediately pounced on and told that the shop closed in 15mins.

They still allowed people to come in after that but told them how long it was before they closed. It seemed to make more sense than closing the doors 10-15mins beforehand.

Coralanne · 30/01/2011 10:04

She only wanted three items. 10 minutes is plenty of time to pick up 3 items.

I used to work for a bank. Closing time was 5 pm and that's when we closed.

Invariably we had some demented person banging on the door at 1 minute past 5 wanting to do their banking.

Most days we still had at least 7 or 8 people still waiting in the queue.

As we let the customers out, more people would try to sqeeze their way in.

My comment (only to other staff members) was usually along the lines that my local supermarket wouldn't let me in 1 minute past closing time to do my grocery shopping.

noblegiraffe · 30/01/2011 10:56

I bet you got paid more, working in a bank.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 30/01/2011 10:58

Even Tesco do that, close the door to new customers about what, 15 minutes? half an hour? before they actually close. Anyone already in the shop gets served, but if you let people through the doors right up until closing time then you will actually close far later.

bubblewrapped · 30/01/2011 11:11

To be fair, if you were working so late, you wouldnt want people wandering in at ten minutes before closing. You have already got the other people in the shop to round up and get rid of.

YABU.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 30/01/2011 11:13

"She only wanted three items. 10 minutes is plenty of time to pick up 3 items."

Yes. It is. But the shop don't know who only wants 3 items and who wants to do a full shop.

Or they could say "anyone who only wants a couple of things, come in. The rest of you, sorry" but I can't see that working, can you?

So they have a blanket policy. Which is really the only thing to do.
