Dd is 3. Should I keep her away from the swings etc? It is generally quiet with not many other people, she doesn't go near anyone.

no, it is NOT ok to take children out 5 days after first spot.
my dd ended up hospitalised for 4 days with CP. It was no joke - she had just turned two and was so so so poorly it was terrifying.
she was in isolation and they said quite categorically that she shouldn't have any contact with anyone else until all spots had stopped appearing AND scabbed over.
As it was, she still had fresh crops of spots appearing over 7 and 8 days after the first spot, and in total I kept her away from others for nearly two weeks.
Please don't take your child out - yes, its boring being cooped up but I can assure you I'd rather do that than spend nights sitting next to a hospital bed hoping your toddler is going to get better. please have some consideration for others.

My friends ds had a very bad reaction to cp and got a rare condition called ADEM as a result. He is now paralysed from the chest down. If you know your child has cp don't take him/her out until after the infectious period has passed.
It's not worth the risk to others

My DM caught encephalitis from the chicken pox virus. TBH though the child was not showing spots yets. She was in a coma for just over a month and still suffers weakness down one side. I really thought she would not recover.
I was very careful with DD and kept her in until the last spot dried up.
