Before anyone points it out yes I agree:

it is none of my business

I shouldn't let it bother me

If thats all I've got to moan about I should think myself lucky etc etc etc

...but is it just me that thinks if you little darling is still so little that there feet barely reach the pedals, the idea of actually pedalling is beyond them as walking is still proving a bit complicated, they have to be strapped in so they don't fall off etc etc etc then really that lovely tricycle you have spent good money on is actually just a second pushchair!

Sorry but not getting your complaint.

Mothercare used to sell a racing car type-thing that clipped into a pushchair chassis - that looked like a good compromise.

No, they are not pedalling and Yes, they might as well be in a pushchair but they are enjoying it and one day will use it as a bike. Not quite sure what the issue is?

Tinkerisdead · 29/01/2011 15:58

I agree it's a second pushchair, my dd has one and isnt quite strong enough to pedal it. She has a balance bike too, so she's starting to want to use the trike alone. But I found the trike brill for a child who screams to get out of the buggy but still can't manage a long walk!

mrsunreasonable · 29/01/2011 15:59

McHobbe just think its a waste of money but each to their own was just wondering if I am the only one that thinks this way. Sometimes I think I must have the brain of a tight fisted bloke because I few half the stuff avaliable to buy for babies as a wate of money. Like top and tail bowls surely it's not hard to remember to wash the face first and the bum last?!

Dansmommy · 29/01/2011 16:01

They're nice for little ones who are frustrated at being in the buggy whilst older siblings are on bikes.

McHobbes · 29/01/2011 16:02

Oh I see!

Oh well yes, it is perfectly fine to think they are a waste of money, if that is your angle.

I don't mind them particularly biut wouldn't go out and buy one because I can think of other things I would rather spend my cash on.

lurkeyishere · 29/01/2011 16:02

Verity the seats are plastic in them Smile they just have a cover over them to make them look like they are worth the £100 lol

as I said my lad adores his he sits in the bloody thing and doesnt sit still with excitment until we stop then he looks at me as if to say jesus woman dont stop this is great keep going
the push hande thing is a good idea cause it turns the wheels so you dont have and loony child turning it randomly and you dont use the peddels for little kids there are foot rests on it too (not that they make any difference my lad sticks his legs out Grin

McHobbes · 29/01/2011 16:03

And I totally agree about so many baby and kiddy things being an utter waste of money.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 29/01/2011 16:04

YABU - It is not like a pushchair - you cannot hang your shopping off these trikes!!

There ones though that also have a footrest and pedals that you can interchange if the child is too young for pedalling.

NannyBeth · 29/01/2011 17:13

My youngest chrge has one and loves it! As soon as the weather gets a bit better we'll use it all the time!! I can see what yore saying but T is almost 2 (so will be starting to learn to pedal etc soon) but is TINY (Ie only just in small 12-18mth clothes, bang on the 9th centile) so for her it will be helpful I think to have a handle etc so she can use a bike like all her friends without necessarily having to pedal, since she can't reach te pedals yet??

I personally think balance bikes are more a waste of money - either get them a bike or a scooter! If thy learn to ride a bike without pedals, will they not then get confused when they do eventually get one with pedals???

LifeIsButtercream · 29/01/2011 18:13

I've seen ones that recline... who the heck wants a trike that reclines?

BTW, I think the ones with handles are brill for older babies (1yr+ etc) but they do seem a bit pointless for tiny ones.

I bought my DD one like this and at 21m she is still a little bit little to manage it, but when she is old enough to pedal it will be handy to have a handle on the back for a while (to help with steering and for when little legs get tired!)

lecce · 29/01/2011 18:51

Ds2 (18 mths) adores his and has done since he was 10 months, I assume because he feels more like his big brother in it. He shouts, "Go, go, go!" if I dare to stop moving and now that he is starting to refuse the pushchair it is a godsend. It has pedals so when he is old enough he can use them without the need to buy anything else so how is it a waste of money?

DS1's balance bike is the least waste of money I have ever spent! He rides trikes at nursery so I know he can pedal and, thanks to the balance bike, he can balance as well. According to others with older dc, he will have no problems using an ordinary bike without the need for stabilisers.

Neither of these are close to being a waste of money for my family - they are ace and are used several times a week, daily in better weather, and loved by the dc!

BlueCollie · 29/01/2011 19:02

My son loves his and we often walk the dog with him in it as it makes going through mud easier. I also nip to the shops with him in it and use the basket on the bottom to chuck food in as it is far easier than trying to carry a basket and push a buggy.
Plus it also changes as they grow so no he ight not be able to pedal now but he will do...hence the pedals being on it. Not a waste when it takes them from this age up to 3-4. Well worth the £60 IMO. I ask my son to choose 'bike or buggy' bike is always a winner.

notinbed · 29/01/2011 23:12

I was going to say we have something like that, but then checked out the price on the link - ours was £10! So I kind of agree with you about waste of money - plenty of worse things to vent your ire on (what on earth are "top and tail bowls"?)

Soups · 29/01/2011 23:32

I had something similar with my youngest son, now 9, and yes I did use it as a second pushchair. He hated prams and pushchairs and got him one soon as he was able to sit safetly on one. It was fantastic. I always wanted to design one with proper off-road wheels and suspension, if it could be folded all the better.

With my youngest son I hardly used it. He was a cuddly little thing who loved snuggling down in his pushchair with a fleecy blanket. After my experience with the first I thought he was a little odd Grin A baby who liked to be reclined and have the pushchair facing me so we could make eye contact? Madness. He even loved the fleece pouch style sling. He'd be all curled up and stare at me.

2shoes · 29/01/2011 23:34

aww they look nice to me(disclaimer my kid are teens)

stressheaderic · 29/01/2011 23:38

I wondered about these too. My DD is 1 next month and tiny for her age. She looks like she won't be ready for one for a long time, but maybe I'm wrong and she'd love it.
Her little pal got one for her 1st bday last month so I looked it up, £108 SWEET JESUS....we've got DD a couple of books, some clothes and a second-hand Whizz Around garage for her birthday
