To think my neighbour should be evicted

My next door neighbour is a young woman who doesn't work and rents her house through a private landlord who works with the council to provide social housing. Since she moved in there has been nothing but trouble. Music on til all hours, her house full of people getting wasted, had people trying to break in her house looking for her, had to get the police out cos her friends came to our door and started threatening us (in front of toddler dd) when we asked them to turn the music down. Our lives are being made miserable. Environmental health are slowly helping us get an abatement order but I can't imagine her abiding by it. Spoke to the landlady several times who at first seemed helpful but now I think she's had enough. She defends our neighbours behaviour and tells us she's on her notice period to be evicted (she first told us this in November). The landlady seems very unprofessional and has told us confidential info about next door, hangs up on us when we phone her and have heard her shouting at our neighbour over unpaid rent to the point were next door was in tears. Even tried the council but they don't want to know. I really think her behavior is unreasonable and she should be evicted especially since the council pay her rent.

She is being evicted. What more do you want.

The proper legal chanels have to be adhered to and unfortnately these things take time. the days when landlords sent round a couple of thugs to rough em up are long gone.

Have you tried offering her money to go immediately? As a kind of compensation for inconvenience.

phone your local noise team. I did and had the same trouble as you did. I wouldnt giver her money though. why the hell should you pay her!

She sounds awful, i hope things move quickly for you....have you involved the police at any time? (thinking about the threatening behavious, etc)...Just my opinion, but i don't think i would offer her any money, if you're already going down official channels, i'm not sure how they would look on this, plus there's no guarantee she wouldn't take it then continue to stay...Hope things work out.

I really don't think she is being evicted as every time we speak to the landlady she changes her story about the notice period. I think she's lying to us. I've also checked and according to what landlady said (section 8) she would have a two week notice period. It's been 3 months since she first said she gave notice. Oh and I won't be offering her money!!

It sounds a horrible situation. Having bad neighbours is a miserable thing.

I am surprised that the council don't want to know. Phone again and ask to speak to the people who deal with antisocial behaviour. I think that councils can now force landlords to act.

Police came out when they threatened us but they called away before they could speak to next door. Community officer phoned 3 days later and said they would have a word. Spoke to the community officer again a few weeks later after more threats and again said they would speak to her. Don't know what came of it. Environmental health are helping us but it's a long process. Housing solutions dept said they are there to support the tenant not help us so we should speak to landlady, landlady was the one who told us to speak to them.
