to think there isn't a difference between BLW and finger foods?

Ok I'm preparing to be flamed, and I have no problem with baby led weaning, but it's been bugging me for a while now...

When talking about weaning, so many people I know in real life/people I see on here say they are doing 'a combination of purees and BLW'. Or they say 'we're doing BLW... but I spoon-feed him if we're having yoghurt/mashed potato/soup etc..'. Surely that is just weaning?? Do they think that other people only ever give purees and never give lumpy or finger food? That if you give any kind of finger food it is BLW?

With both DC I started off on purees for a week or 2, quickly moved up to mashed food and introduced finger foods as well, like steamed carrots, rice cakes, broccoli, toast etc, when they seemed ready for it. DD2 is 7 months and eats all sorts. I just call it food.

Whenever I hear someone talking about BLW I have to fight the urge to say 'in my day (only 2 years ago!) we just called it finger food...'

Ok, as you were, just needed to get that off my chest!

I think that it is very much like a fashion statement. In my day some people carried around all day in a sling they just didn't think much about it or make it a virtue.

I tried to give 4.5mth old some babyrice, not in the least interested. Gave him a banana and he gummed it down. Am thinking about the whole BLW thing now.

BUT.

I am EBF (because this time it didn't hurt), co-sleeping (because I am too tired to pop him back in his crib), so if I BLW I may just have to slap myself silly. Since:

a) find extended BFing odd. Yeah flame on, personal opinion.
b) Co-sleeping hideous and uncomfortable and end up with crapy nights sleep and myholy grail is 12 hours in own cot.
c) I cook food with too much oil and salt and in sauce to suit DH's palate, I don't eat proper meals (too my shame I just eat everyone's left overs), DS1's food is quite messy also (spag bol, fish pie, cauliflower cheese and so on) so would in fact be doing finger foods (cooked veg batons and so on).

DS2 was more than 10lb at birth, no way on my nelly would I shudder 'babywear', but at this rate I will be weaving him a lentil papoose for his next birthday.

Had you given him chocolate he would have wolfed it down even quicker,bringmesunshine-and it really would be BLW (but not a good thing). Grin
