Mummies (And Daddies etc!) in Epsom & Surrounding Areas!

Am I being unreasonable in wanting Odeon Cinemas to devote 1 film a week to 'Newbies'...

They advertise this... In Epsom!! But they don't ever schedule a Newbies film!

The next closest cinema, Kingston, almost never has a film scheduled, and the same with Wimbledon!

I've emailed customer services about this and after three days recieved a generic email about marketing in Epsom showing a lack of interest... It didn't answer my question about Kingston or Wimbledon.

I refuse to believe that in all the screens in all three of these cinemas they couldn't devote just one film a week... Early in a morning or during a usual slump time to a film we could bring out babies to?!

Would anyone in Epsom and the surrounding areas be interested in taking thier babies (and older DC's perhaps?) to the cinema?

If nothing else, it's just false advetising isn't it?

I'd be really interested in people who would like to go to this! (or not of course!) just so that I could put it to them...

Thanks!

Not sure it is of any use to you but i think the Guildford Odeon does Newbies every thursday morning.

Thanks, I'll check that out but it's sort of too far for me...

Wimbledon & Kingston are too far really :p (cant drive at the moment) but I really love the cinema (sigh!) lol

Someone ought to Twitter David Cameron really...

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 27/01/2011 18:18

Yep. Sarcasm, very appropriate. You're hilarious.

I'm only trying to see if anyone else feels the way I do, so that we can maybe take our babies to a film. If you're not interested then perhaps I can direct you to a thread where someone is actively seeking useless abuse?

It did bother me when DD was little but now she is 2 I wouldn't use it anyway, it is such a small window of age that I can see why it would be very cost effective. The cinema would have to open especially!

I wish they would show childrens films in the week but can see why that wouldn't be cost effective either.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 27/01/2011 19:32

The cinema doesn't have to open especially though... The odeons are open all day with some films showing on several screens around 6 times a day...

All they'd have to do is let one of those screenings be available to people with babies... Just one showing.

I've been to the cinema in the afternoon before when it's just been about 4 people in there... I already know 4 mums that would want to go so already it could theoretically match the takings of an unsuccessful slot.

Can't you just go to normal screenings?

Is that not the done thing? Oops. Grin

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 27/01/2011 19:39

Can I?

I would but I'm concerned she'd cry and people would glare...

It is sort of unfair to other people to have a young crying baby in the cinema... That was the point of newbies I thought...

I took all of mine, from new born. Stopped for a while when they were about 10 months. If they so much as squeaked I either fed them or took them out, but I don't think I actually ever needed to leave.

Nobody even noticed most of the time.

I also take them in their own right quite early - DS2 enjoys the cinema, because he's used to it, and behaves well (sits still, eats popcorn. Wink He's two.

We took my DD to the Epsom Odeon when she was 5 months old. Staff said it was fine so long as we took her outside if she cried. She did cry a little but slept through most of it. HTH

TarheelMama · 27/01/2011 20:04

Oh and that was only in November so assume it'd still be okay.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 27/01/2011 21:59

That is helpful, but I am looking for other mums who would want a newbies screening in epsom really...

I don't know about others, and maybe I need to get over it, but I think sitting in a 'regular' showing would have me completely on edge that my DD would cry or make her little snuffly noises (awww!) or something and that someone would get annoyed basically!

Does anyone else really want a newbies screening? even just a trial? If there was more than just myself, friend and sister in law then maybe they would consider giving it a go...

(As theres only so much gymboree, soft play and rhyme time I can do! lol)

with the newbies screenings they dont push the sound quite so much and they dont tend to show the shouty type movies if you see what i mean, hence they are supposed to be more suitable for people with babies. They also dont turn the lights down quite so much and you wont get thrown out if they cry

When i was on maternity leave i would have really liked to take DD to the movies. I always loved the cinema and before DD's arrival used to go all the time. Havent been since and that was 10 months ago Partly becuase the movies they show at the Newbies screenings have always been dire.
