to think a 10 year ban is not enough

for a teacher, who was sending suggestive texts and emails trying to instigate a sexual relationship with 2 vulnerable 16 yr old girls who he taught. he also bought them gifts, and contrived to meet up with them alone in school time

Yes 16 is over the age of consent - but should he ever be trusted again?

Would you be happy if he ended up teaching your teenage DD in 10 yrs time?

And would he ever get a job again anyway?

If he was dealt with in a criminal court then it is not likely that he would be offered employment again in the state sector.

Which case are you talking about?

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/01/2011 14:10

Was he convicted of anything? How did he get this 10 year ban? 10 yr ban from what? teaching? banned by who?

sueperlative · 27/01/2011 14:10

when i was at school our spanish teacher married one of the 16 year old pupils

wonder if they are still together - will have to look him up on facebook lol

ah, thanks. yeah, he's unlikely to get another teaching job anyway isn't he? Unless they don't know about this.

scurryfunge · 27/01/2011 14:15

Seems odd that it wasn't a criminal investigation as there are offences here. Maybe the children didn't consent to being interviewed by police.

TotemPole · 27/01/2011 14:24

I think the age of consent is 18 for teachers/scout leaders etc, with children in their care.

If it had progressed to a physical relationship, he could have been prosecuted and jailed.

Personally, I don't think he should be allowed to work with children ever again. He sounds maniplative.

If this has never been investigated by police (though I suspect it must have been) I wonder whether this would never show on a future crb check. Does accusations in the workplace show up on enhanced crb?

scurryfunge · 27/01/2011 14:28

Totem, I agree but I see it that he has abused the trust by inciting a child to engage in sexual activity - it does have to progress to a physical relationship for it to be an offence. That is why I am confused about there being no mention of police involvement.

scurryfunge · 27/01/2011 14:28

sorry, it doesn't have to progress...

TotemPole · 27/01/2011 14:32

scurry, yes, thinking about it more, what he's doing would be classed as an offence.

Would it be classed as grooming?

scurryfunge · 27/01/2011 14:40

I'm not sure grooming falls into the under 18s abuse of position of trust category. Causing or inciting sexual activity does though.
