not to get the coffee mashine out?

my father is coming for a visit [slightpanicmode] and he drinks coffee mornings and afternoons.
I never drink coffee at home at all, so the mashine (old fashioned perlator) is far back in the cupboard.
aibu not to get it out, descale it and let it take up valuable counter space for 4 days?
I do however have a stove top espresso thingy so he will not have to go without it at all...

Stove top espresso makes nicer coffee than old scaley percolater imo. If you want to make an easy latte - heat milk in microwave and then add an inch or so to an empty plastic milk bottle, put lid on bottle and them shake for a few seconds - pour over espresso and bingo.. even the fussiest dad would be impressed.

katie middleton I got one of those and some filters from a shop called Clasohlson it's briliant for making good coffee for one.

I vowed never to be a coffee snob because my brother is but once you get hooked on real coffee instant taste yuck.

Yy 2old. Once you start with one of those you never need instant again. I take mine on holiday when we go self catering. I haven't heard of the company you mention. I bought mine online which fits with my lazy ways Grin

I am a tad evangelical about what is essentially a plastic funnel, but I have turned Dh towards the light and he was a hardened cafetiere lover of many years standing.

Clasohlson is a swedish shop that is like a cross between Homebase, Maplin and Ikea - one in Kingston and Reading and I think they're spreading!

Just remembered - I bought a new cafetiere in Sainsburies recently - half price at £5 for a 6 cup one. My local one still had loads last week.

muddleduck · 27/01/2011 10:40

Tell him that your percolator is broken and ask if he could bring his with him.

freshmint · 27/01/2011 10:40

yawn

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/01/2011 10:43

Freshmint, that's unkind.
I can't bring myself to drink instant. I take one of those plastic things with me and some filter papers. Our go straight into our food recycling bin.

mousymouse · 27/01/2011 12:17

I now bought illy ground espresso and dowe egberts ground coffee and he can either use the stove top espresso maker or the filter (from the mashine) and hot water from the kettle. whatever he prefers.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/01/2011 12:21

Sorry, that wasnt very helpful was it!

mousymouse · 28/01/2011 09:13

short update: my dh is very happy with the espresso from the stove top espresso maker. he says it*s a real treat from his usual filter coffee.

espresso makers are fine - it's all we have, and we use it every day

chuck the other thing though and then you can stop feeling guilty about it

if you haven't got a fusty, scaled-up, out of date manky percolator in the cupboard then you can't offer him a delicious cup of coffee out of it Hmm
