to have a glass of wine in the bath...

and to leave DH to put DC's in bed?
It's been a long day my DH has been at work all day (fairly boring, low energy job) whilst I have been dealing with two toddlers, one of which is sick and a baby who is having a growth spurt.
All I have heard all day apart from retching is the sound of tears and tantrums and I have had enough, I'm exhausted and not feeling great myself.

He is due back in a minute and I want to know if IABU before I ask.

Sounds like you deserve one. Go for it!

MardyBra · 25/01/2011 18:27

Baileys is infinitely superior imo.

Whatever you do, make sure you take in the bottle for top-ups.

Abr1de · 25/01/2011 18:29

i used to do this all the time. Sometimes it is the only sane response to life. I didn't just do it during illness--it was my normal. My husband always found me in the bath with a glass. Had to stop when they began needing help with homework, the beggars.

Sazisi · 25/01/2011 18:29

Sounds lovely. I'm waiting to finish a course of antibiotics so I can have a glass. I think I'll celebrate by having it in the bath :)

Boozilla · 25/01/2011 18:32

Definitely, no more unreasonable than the chocolate brownie I decided to eat in bed this afternoon!

Sounds like you've earned it! Enjoy!

Mouseface · 25/01/2011 18:33

It is a must after a hard day in this house! YADDDDDDDNBU. Smile

orienteerer · 25/01/2011 18:34

ginmakesitallok · 25/01/2011 18:35

Sazisi - you do know that with the vast majority of antibiotics you can drink alcohol? Urban myth that you can't - think there are only 2 which will make you ill if you drink with them (unfortunately can't remember which two!!)

Marlinspike · 25/01/2011 18:35

No you're bloody well not!

get some candles in there while you're at it (for atmosphere ladies, nothing else Smile)

... oh, and make sure there's a lock on the door and you conveniently can't hear anything...

(where's the glass of wine emoticon when you need it?)

Abr1de · 25/01/2011 18:41

This is why I don't understand people who don't have a bathtub in the house. It just wouldn't work in the shower, would it? THe wine would be diluted and the book would be soaked.

Sazisi · 25/01/2011 18:49

yes, I'm on flagyl, which is one of the ones you really can't drink with. I'm on another one too, clonamox, which I think is okay with a bit of drink.

DublinMammy · 25/01/2011 18:50

What a good idea, must do that myself tonight.

It might be unreasonable though to stay in with the entire bottle of wine and emerge, prunelike, at 8pm demanding your supper. I only say "might".....

tyler80 · 25/01/2011 18:54

Metronidazole is one where you shouldn't touch a drop (think that's the same as flagyl which is just a brand name iirc)

Mishy1234 · 25/01/2011 18:54

YANBU, I do it frequently! The trick is to have the bath already run so you can jump in the minute his feet hit the doormat.

Seriously, you sound as if you have had one hell of a day and I would absolutely RECOMMEND you have a lovely long bath with a glass (or two!) of wine. Just don't overdo it and drown!

sarahtigh · 25/01/2011 18:57

metronidazole/flagyl should not be taken with alcohol, penicliin is fine they just say dont drink in case you binge and are sick then penicillin is in toilet bowl too

metronidazole is closely related to drug to treat alcoholism and if you drink with it can make you sick and drunk faster that said 1 small glass of wine would not hurt

MrsSnaplegs · 25/01/2011 19:03

Ha sarahtigh I once had a small baileys whilst on flagyl thinking one won't hurt! Then proceeded to vomit over front row of a runrig concert ( long time ago Blush)

ravenhair get thee to the bath with a bottle let alone a glass! Can I also recommend an additional requirement - wireless headphones- great for listening to music whilst in there !!

PatPending · 25/01/2011 19:08

You don't need an excuse - this was my routine when my two were kids!!

Enjoy [bsmile]

bessie26 · 25/01/2011 19:23

Don't forget a bar of chocolate too!

SharkSkinThing · 25/01/2011 19:31

It actually counts as one of your five a day, you know.

I long for when breastfeeding is over so that I can do the same! Not had a drink for soooo long!

Cheers! x

5Foot5 · 25/01/2011 19:33

Haven't done this for a while but I used to prefer a nice chilled glass of Fino sherry when in the bath.

Oh and of course don't forget to take a good book in with you.

BertieBotts · 25/01/2011 20:38

Shark you can drink while breastfeeding! :)

RavenHairedPrincess · 25/01/2011 21:37

Thank you all for your replies DH walked in about 10mins after my post and I decided to take your answers and asked him, he even ran the bath for me and poured the wine, AND when I got out he had put the DC's to bed tidied the toys away and cooked me dinner.
I am one lucky girl to have met him, apprently he took one look at me when he got in and I looked that exhausted he daren't say no in fear of me going on strike Grin
