Or am I being practical?

DH has just had a tantrum about the number of coats/shoes the children have. I know he is a bit stressed at the moment as his business it a bit shaky.

We have three DC's - each have a going out coat (which they use for school) and a playcoat. DS1 also has his school fleece.

They each have a pair of wellies, a play pair of shoes, a going out pair and DS1 has school shoes and trainers.

Now I dont think thats alot. I like them to have 'play' stuff as we do alot outside - walks and park trips etc and I dont want them messing up their good stuff.

DD1 has school shoes, trainers, wellies and a pair of black boots. (Plimsolls at school)

DD2 has school shoes, trainers, wellies, a paid of black boots and a pair of grey suede boots (present for birthday) (Plimsolls at school)

DS has 2 pairs of wellies and a pair of boots.

I am going shopping tomorrow for trainers fro DS and new schools shoes for the girls.

Coats wise they have 1 "winter" coat each and 1 "spring coat" each.

We have this argument a lot... Mostly because I'm extremely messy and the shoes/coats get dumped at the front door and DH falls over them when he comes in, cueing a rant about the number of shoes/children/coats/pets/bloody annoying wife he has!!!

Is it the cost or the mess he's whining about?

whatdoiknowanyway · 25/01/2011 18:55

I was wondering about the mess too. That would upset my DH much more than the cost.

It sounds normal to me - it's just common sense that if you have five people in one house there are going to be a lot of shoes and coats around the place! What did he expect?

If it's about tidiness maybe he could sort out a suitable place to keep the things not in current use, or get a shoerack/extra coathooks to go by the door? Surely not a difficult problem to solve. Having a 'tantrum' about it is not particularly productive!

MarioandLuigi · 25/01/2011 19:01

No, no mess - we have a coat rack and a shoe thingy where they all live - he is messier than any of us.

He's definitely being unreasonable then.

dh thought I had lots of shoes until he met my best friend who has a "shoe room!" Now he doesn't complain. I think it's a man thing. Although dd only has one coat and a thick hoody she can wear when that's in the wash. She also only has smart Clarks shoes and a pair of wellies.

Last year she had nice boots and trainers too for the winter but she didn't want them this year so we didn't bother. She has her rain coat from the Autumn which still fits but she's not wearing it as it's too cold.
