To think that a star chart for a 12yr old........

....is just a bit odd.
I have a friend who uses the star chart method to reward her children when they are good etc. Nothing wrong with that for younger children but one of them is 12 going on a teenager and she uses one for her too. I think this is a bit too old and just a bit odd. Or AIBU??

I guess it depends on the child. My niece is 12, well into puberty and it would not be appropriate for one to be used for rewarding her. She has reached a different stage in her behaviour and development...different strokes for different folks.

I can't see it would work, unless points meant prizes cash !

It seems odd...because star charts are meant to reinforce WHY being good is best....at 12 a child sholdn't need reminding.

I bet lots on here think it is fine though!

It all depends what the stars earn.

if i tried that with my 3 dc's (12yrs,13yrs & 15yrs) they would probablly suggest where to put the stars and chart

Yes, I agree it depends on maturity of the child but 12years, surely there are other ways. Imagine the ribbing they'd get at school when their friends find out. And yes, mardybra if i did one for mine at that age it would definitely need to be cash.

Mine have considered having one for screen time. So I could imagine doing it with teenagers, but they'd probably want something pretty quickly as a reward. But star charts have always been two way, so they remind me that they are good sometimes as much as reminding them to be good.
