Mostly its ok, but sometimes they do have some really sexual episodes. Marge and Homer trying to get their "thang" back is one that always sticks on my mind. But there have been several episodes with bits in the have involved H&M getting down to it, or talking about doing it, or being interrupted just before they do it.

Its a cartoon and kids love cartoons and as it is on Channel 4 and Sky at teatime, you could be forgiven for thinking it would be ok for them to watch it. But it does make me uncomfortable sometimes, I have noticed that they used to say "nsuggle" but now they just say "sex" which is not something I want my little ones watching and asking about just yet! After a particularly inappropriate part of an episode I have finally banned it, much to their disgust! DH thinks I am over reacting saying its "just a cartoon" but he wouldnt let them watch South Park and that is a cartoon too!

AIBU and a prude?

my children are long in bed when op suggests it should be on, do try to keep up spero. Hmm

bruffin · 25/01/2011 14:25

Spero, little kids don't understand things like that, it goes over their heads!

bruffin · 25/01/2011 14:26

Meant to say it's like the pantomine, a lot of very rude jokes children don't understand but plenty to keep them entertained.

Spero · 25/01/2011 14:26

Buzz? Sorry, don't understand your point.

You said you wanted to watch it at 6pm, that was best for you. So record it and watch it later?

All I'm saying is 6pm too early, gives wrong message - better after 7pm, no need to wait until after 9pm, that would be bonkers.

I am mildly amused at how this argument appears to be interpreted by some as an attack on their civil liberties.

Spero · 25/01/2011 14:27

Bruffin, the not understanding is sometimes part of the problem. If my daughter doesn't understand something, she asks me about it. I had an uncomfortable five minutes trying to explain what Marge's sister was 'doing' at that point.

Spero · 25/01/2011 14:28

But agree, it is the slapstick element she loves, of course the social commentary goes way over her head.

marmadukesdad · 25/01/2011 14:33

YABU! Marge and Homer getting it on is surely vastly preferable to itchy and scratchy! When your children are older one would hope that a rewarding sexual life awaits them whilst one equally hopes that extreme, constant violence doesn't.

Spero · 25/01/2011 14:35

Does nobody ever read my posts, except for Buzz? Bleats.

I repeat: the objectionable sex bits are NOT Marge and Homer. Its all the other sex bits.

BuzzLightBeer · 25/01/2011 14:42

No, I want my children to be able to watch at 6pm, as they like. Record it on what?

The programmers and regulators are all fine with the time slots. If you personally don't want your kids to watch it, don't let them. I'm not sure how much simpler it can be?

Spero · 25/01/2011 14:46

Buzz, it is easy to record programmes. The techlogy has been around for about thirty years I think.

All I am saying is 6pm is too early, gives wrong impression.

We may be arguing at cross purposes; also I don't see how I can put my point any plainer.

redpanda13 · 25/01/2011 14:46

I don't want it on later. I watch it with my child as do a lot of parents. Her father also watches it with her.I like sitting with her on my knee enjoying it together. There are very few programmes that all members of the family can get something from. Most of the children's programmes I would rather have a hot poker to the eyes than watch.

If you do not like it then turn it off. I think the soaps are innapropriate (and a bit crap) and they are not on in my house. I would never suggest Eastenders and Emmerdale be put on later though.

KalokiMallow · 25/01/2011 14:47

spero So only young child friendly content before 7pm?

How many of the programmes on before 7pm are aimed at children?

BuzzLightBeer · 25/01/2011 14:49

and video recorders went out with the ark.

Gives wrong impression to who? You seem to be complaining on behalf of the "I'm to dim to regulate my own childrens viewing" Club. Its not Sky1s job to tell you what is suitable for your kids, its yours.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 25/01/2011 15:04

Agree about the News - I was horrified when my parents were babysitting the kids when they were yonunger and sitting with horrific violent things on the News, likely to terrify them. But I don't think it should be banned for everyone - just that parents should not let the DC watch it. TV has an off switch - switch it off!

Cleofartra · 25/01/2011 16:06

If you're going to argue that nothing with an 'adult theme' should be on before 7pm how about banning Jeremy Kyle? and Doctors? What about Colombo? As for the news.........

I think anything which is about murder could be sensibly classified as having an 'adult theme'.

BuzzLightBeer · 25/01/2011 16:09

You mean CSI isn't the perfect programme for my 3 and 6 year olds? [bconfused] But its on mid-afternoon, surely Living TV is practically ordering me to park them in front of it? Wink

Spero · 25/01/2011 21:10

Buzz - haven't used a video recorder for about ten years. I record programmes with a digital recorder. It's fab! my daugther and I can watch our simpsons collection whenever we like, we don't have to rush to the TV at 6pm.

Kaloki. My point is, it is a CARTOON. that is the problem. It givest the wrong impression. Some people do seem to think South Park is aimed at children, simply because it is a cartoon. While that hints at a level of stupidity quite incompatible at parenting, I do have some sympathy with them.

I am a little perturbed with myself for continuing to argue this point as I should remind my self that once someone has refused to understand your point more than once, they are unlikely ever to do so... my brain must have rotted from all this Simpsons watching.

My work here is done. I agree with op, is all.

MrsWeebles · 25/01/2011 21:12

imo it shouldn't be on EVER. Its pure shite and a waste of animation.

Bogeyface · 25/01/2011 22:47

Thanks Spero. Tbph i tuned out a while ago when it was clear that alot of people were missing my point! I was simply questioning whether a cartoon that isnt aimed at children should be on at a time when they will want to watch it, when it has such adult themes.

Btw, to those that said that it is the new series that is the problem, DH agrees and said if I watch the earlier series I will see a huge difference. So thank you for that tip :) I now know what I can let them watch when its on!

"While that hints at a level of stupidity quite incompatible at parenting"

Well exactly, why does everything have to be brought down to that level? Most people are totally capable of realising that cartoon does not equal kids TV.

Most people are also capable of realising that everything shown before 7pm is not suitable for children.

Why should all the sensible people have to change to make sure the stupid people don't have to think?

NotATeen69 · 29/03/2020 00:10

Ffuuuucck you're a bit of a saddo aren't you? poor kids.

bridgetreilly · 29/03/2020 00:39

It's not a children's cartoon, though. It's never been advertised as such. Plenty of pre-watershed programmes talk about sex. They just don't have graphic sex scenes.

YABU. It's up to parents to decide what they want their kids to watch.

ghostyslovesheets · 29/03/2020 00:40

Fuck me I replied to this when my kids where 8 6 and 3 - they are now 17,16 and 11

Aka ZOMBIE

ocarinan · 29/03/2020 00:45

Have you been watching it on Disney+ and that's why you're bumping these threads? Also, if you're not a teen but you find 69 edgy, does that mean you're 12?
