Why the big drama? It's just numbers, just another day. I'm feeling required to have some kind of existential crisis. Should I manufacture one just to keep everyone happy?

Nope, I'm also of the ItsJustANumberStopFaffing brigade. Grin

When's the Big Day? Wink

I think you need an existential crisis Wink - possibly one involving a three-day break at a spa . . . !

LittleMissHissyFit · 24/01/2011 11:39

Oh no, YANBU!

40 is GREAT!

Sure it daunts a tad when it's looming, but being 40 gives you so much more confidence.

Ok so our patience wears thinner and we suffer fools less gladly, but tbh that's not a bad thing!

ENJOY!!

Happy Birthday. Grin I'm 41 on Wednesday, and the 40s are brilliant cos you cease to give a shit. Grin

cantspel · 24/01/2011 11:41

It is great being 40. I like it so much i have been 40 for the last 6 years.

Ormirian · 24/01/2011 11:42

Happy Birthday! And I quite agree. My 30th was my best big number birthday at the time, and my 40th was even better.

I am more confident than when I was younger. I might not have youth but I have a lot of better things instead Smile

Mij · 24/01/2011 11:42

Bramshott I'll have to save that til DD2 stops feeding, 3 years'll do it I reckon ;-)

littlemisshissyfit (loving the name btw) I loved my 30s, way better than my 20s, although the thought of having less patience and even lower tolerance might send my nearest and dearest screaming for the hills Blush I'm not renowned for my calm and forgiving nature at the best of times!

Yes, have a party. After all, we have no choice about what age we are. The papers just write about being forty; because they are at a loss for something to write about.
Cheers "Gabby"

mutznutz · 24/01/2011 11:43

Getting older beats the hell out of the alternative so I'm all for it!

Happy Birthday Grin

Poledra · 24/01/2011 11:43

Mij, do I know you? One of my best friends is 40 today. How many DCs do you have?

Congratulations, BTW - I was 40 in December. 'Twas just another day really. I was more 'How the fuck did that happen??' than bothered about it, IYSWIM.

Mij · 24/01/2011 11:44

And I am marking it, this week just by doing Nice Things With People I Like, followed by a bit of low-key dancing at a do in Feb. Can't be doing with big parties: too much like work and I always end up doing stuff that other people will like rather than what I want to do.

Poledra · 24/01/2011 11:44

Aahhh - crossposts, I see you're still feeding your DD2 - definitely not my friend then Smile

AgentZigzag · 24/01/2011 11:45

Happy Birthday Mij Smile

I'm 40 later on this year and I couldn't care less, but I do like the idea of having a manufactured exisential crisis as a justification for high alcohol intake Grin

snowmummy · 24/01/2011 11:46

I love being 40! I had a big party to mark the event, and I'm happier than ever before. I can't understand people getting depressed about getting older - they should think about the alternative!!

Mij · 24/01/2011 11:46

mutznutz Ha!

Poledra don't think so, but then I wouldn't fess up as I like to be mysterious [swooshes cloak]

40 is no big deal. I really enjoyed it, had a great weekend away.
30 was the difficult one for me, as life was not turning out the way I had imagined it would when I was younger and thought about how my life would be.
It got better though, hence enjoying 40.
Happy Birthday,

zookeeper · 24/01/2011 11:48

Forty is fab - I've stayed there for five years I like it so much lol

Mij · 24/01/2011 11:48

Aggghhh x-posts all over the place! Fast moving thread :-) Thanks everyone, will be back in a bit to see further affirmation that 40s kicks 30s arse, but off to buy my birthday present now Grin

I loved turning 40 too. For some reason I've felt more happy with myself / confident being 40 than I've ever felt. Also, I used my 40th birthday as the perfect excuse to "have a midlife crisis" and jack in my job for something better. I've never been happier Smile.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 24/01/2011 11:50

Happy Birthday Mij.Smile

Do you mind if I steal your birthday ethos for my upcoming 40th?

It will forever be known as the birthday I did Nice Things With People I Like. (Obviously I will accredit you with the phrase.)

FabbyChic · 24/01/2011 11:57

Forty great? When I reached 40 made me realise that I was nearer to 50 than 25.

Thing is I still feel 25, I might not look it but it's like the head never gets old!

Happy Birthday!

wendihouse22 · 24/01/2011 13:54

Happy Birthday to you!

It's not a crisis! For me 30 was good.....40 was good..... and hopefully next year, 50 will be good.

We all get older...........if we're lucky enough, that is!

Enjoy

roseability · 24/01/2011 13:59

I am in the middle of an existential crisis and I am 31

I fully expect by 40 to have sussed life a bit more. I don't want youth, I want confidence and a good life.

Happy Birthday!
