To use two pillowcases per pillow

... an 'under pillow case' (usually quite thick, coarser cotton) and an upper (matching the bed linen or just plain white, but fine thread count)?
I don't think I am, but my cleaner seems utterly unable to understand, and she pulls off both cases on some pillows, and replaces with the coarse ones on top. I always spend ages going through sorting all the beds out, rewashing etc. Even though I've tried to explain it to her lots of times. I think I need diagrams.

Yes it's a bit weird. Don't they get rucked up and uncomfortable under your head in the night? And why would you rewash a pillowcase that has just been pulled off and then put on again?

I suggest a pillow protector. Then it's obvious to everyone what is going on.

HettyAmaretti · 24/01/2011 11:16

YANBU to double up if it makes you happy. 'tis no different from using a mattress protector IMO.

But, YABU re your cleaner. If it bothers you so much, change them yourself.

MsKLo · 24/01/2011 11:17

I use two too- a pillow protector underneath is Better i agree!

deliakate · 24/01/2011 11:17

I think I am using the under pillow case as a protector. I could replace with proper ones, but would need loads. I have to rewash as they have inevitably been slept on and all messed up by the time I get to it.
I think I am being pregnant and mad.

I've always done this, so has Mum, and both my sisters. Much more comfortable than a pillow protector.

EldritchCleavage · 24/01/2011 11:22

That's normal in my family. I buy pillow slips which are slightly different from pillow cases and fit tightly to avoid rucking up, then put a pillow case over the top. Perhaps give your cleaner a demonstration?

pinkhebe · 24/01/2011 11:22

I do it too

TrillianAstra · 24/01/2011 11:22

It's you who has to do the washing (or your cleaner but I presume you pay her) so do as you like.

lillibet1 · 24/01/2011 15:27

I do exactly the same YANBU

HollyBollyBooBoo · 24/01/2011 15:31

YANBU - maybe just need to explain to the cleaner exactly what to do when with said pillow cases?

BeenBeta · 24/01/2011 15:33

We wash our pillow underslips every week. Maybe that is what your cleaner expects?

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 24/01/2011 15:39

I do that too - I don't wash the under ones weekly though, but probably once a month, maybe a bit more...

Just tell her once more when you want the under ones changed and when you don't.

YANBU- same pillowcase routine as ChippinIn here-

I've asked my cleaner to not make my bed- I do it myself- that way it is always right.

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 24/01/2011 18:16

Pegs - Noooo I loved it when we had a cleaner - having the beds made was one of the things I loved the most!!

YANBU - my family all do this. I hate the feel of the pillow through the pillowcase

tethersend · 24/01/2011 18:25

Freaks, the lot of you.

LadyOfTheManor · 24/01/2011 18:26

YANBU. I do the same.

RE: The cleaner; if she wants to be paid, ask her to do her job properly. They're not irreplaceable.

PinkElephant73 · 24/01/2011 19:08

yanbu, my cleaner is a bit random with pillowslips as well. I give her the same amount of clean bedlinen to put on as she has just taken off, so you wouldnt think it would be that hard.

wyorksmum · 24/01/2011 19:11

You are totally normal. 1st one i've come across on this site...Wink

TattyDevine · 24/01/2011 19:13

I do it too, mainly because if I have an ivory coloured pillow, but bright white coloured linen as I do in our room, the ivory doesn't shine through, if that makes sense.

I do them myself though, not sure why but I dont like the cleaner to change our bed!

JamieLeeCurtis · 24/01/2011 19:17

I use two, otherwise the pillow gets all greasy and orrible and they are a bugger to wash

starfishmummy · 24/01/2011 19:30

YANBU. Althiough I tend to use the quilted pillow protectors these days. DS has a waterproof one.
