...to think offering a bag of stale bread crusts is freecycle madness?

The message suggested it could be used for feeding the ducks lol.

The thing that really made me laugh was that the next day it was listed as taken Confused.

I know that people get riled about some of the 'wanted' requests (a wii, a car - must have tax and MOT etc) but has anyone else seen offers that just seem to be taking the p**s?

Confused

At least is was an offer and not a wanted Grin

mutznutz · 24/01/2011 10:42

Pmsl..I can just imagine the ad "Can be used for feeding ducks, making croutons or grinding in to breadcrumbs" Grin

woollyideas · 24/01/2011 10:47

I cut down a shrub in my front garden and offered the bits on freecycle (it was mostly thin twigs, so not hugely useful as firewood.)

Nearly had my hand bitten off. It was gone in less than an hour.

togarama · 24/01/2011 11:03

My v. thrifty MIL would probably take it. She's very into breadcrumbing food and always has a bag of stale bread next to the Kenwood...

JaxTellersOldLady · 24/01/2011 11:04

madness!

but at least it was used and not composted.

Mummyella · 24/01/2011 11:14

LOL I will bear your MIL in mind toga next time I have some veg peelings etc ...Even if I wanted to breadcrumb food not sure if I would use someone else's stale crumbs. Stale bread is not usually a commodity it is difficult to get hold of...

yabu.

I am sorely temmpted to offer my chicken bones / carcass on there as I can never be arsed to make stock but someone else could use it.

Honte · 24/01/2011 11:18

It is dangerous to feed duck bread, and on those grounds YANBU.
Our freecycle has had twice daily updates for the same bloody cardboard box for weeks now. I don't think anyone wants the damn thing!

mamaloco · 24/01/2011 11:21

My dad keeps the stale bread for his friends who raised pigs and chickens.
I think it is reasonable to recycle it. Grin

TotemPole · 24/01/2011 11:22

Offering stale bread for the ducks, that's a bit quackers.

MissQue · 24/01/2011 11:23

teehee, you do see some weird and wonderful things on there :D

Ciske · 24/01/2011 11:26

It sounds like they were just offering everyone at Freecycle a free laugh. Wink

jendifa · 24/01/2011 12:06

Saw a free curry on there once -

Someone had got a takeaway and two curries had come instead of one, so they offered the spare one!!

JaxTellersOldLady · 24/01/2011 13:02

oh I like your freecycle jendifa

sloggies · 24/01/2011 13:30

Free cycle, lovely idea in theory - in practise, it is sometimes a little Biscuit

Poledra · 24/01/2011 13:35

OK, question for you Freecyclers. My old upright Hoover is still usable but in dodgy condition (FIL has had to glue one of the wheels back on, and also you sometimes have to give it a kick to make the brushes go flat on the floor properly). I was going to take it to the tip, DH reckons he's going to freecycle it (this year, next year, sometime, never).

So, would you think we were stoopid to Freecycle our knackered old Hoover, or would you think that it was something someone might want?

Meglet · 24/01/2011 13:47

I would bung it on freecycle. As long as you're honest about the condition then go ahead. Someone might want a spare one for hoovering the car, maybe?

DaftApeth · 24/01/2011 13:55

I'd try free cycle first Poledra. If it does not go, then take it to the tip.

At our tip, they keep all the electrical goods for a guy who uses all the parts - goodness knows what for though!

Mercedes519 · 24/01/2011 13:58

Poledra, it takes two minutes to freecycle and then if it doesn't go take it to the tip.

We recently had people asking for ski gear.

WANTED: Any ski gear for a man or a woman bblah blah

Seriously? You can pay for a ski trip but you want the clothes for free Hmm

Best ones are the people asking for pushchairs and specifing the brand and colour they want! FFS!

Mercedes519 · 24/01/2011 13:59

But somebody did ask for an oscilloscope (sp?).

And got one Grin

marriednotdead · 24/01/2011 14:13

I have freecycled many things, and the items I expect to be stuck with are usually the ones that everyone wants!

Never offered foodstuff, though I've seen people offering surplus fruit etc. from their gardens.

I asked for a pair of child's crutches once and was immediately offered 3 pairs.

What's an 'ossy' scope?!

Theonlyexception · 24/01/2011 14:16

My (barking) mil would probably take the bag of stale bread crumbs. She goes to Tesco specifically to buy a loaf od tesco value 9p bread to go and feed the ducks- even in the snow!!

peanutbutterkid · 24/01/2011 14:22

Someone will snap your hoover up, Poledra.

Just tell them if they don't pick up when they say they will that you will offer it to next person who asked; it will be gone so fast your head will spin.

Things I failed to get takers for:

Big bottle of barely used TCP
Electric travel kettle (good working order)
Spin Dryer
carpet tack

I have old ski gear I could/should give away, but am too much of a hoarder.
