Grin at bodyofeyeore

TattyDevine · 23/01/2011 18:25

What does IPOAT mean though? It must stand for something. I better check anagrams actually just in case I'm being a sad ignor-anus

TheMonster · 23/01/2011 18:25

JessicaRabid you are feeling senstive aren't you?

AnnieLobeseder · 23/01/2011 18:26

YABU. People have all kinds of reasons, and just because you don't understand them, doesn't mean they're valid reasons.

A thread might be about bereavement when someone has suffered a recent loss.

A thread might be about having feelings for a married man when your DH has just run off with the secretary.

Just seeing certain thread titles can be very upsetting for people.

And also, sometimes it can just be too bloody hard to step away from an argument.

JamieLeeCurtis · 23/01/2011 18:26

Tatty Devine - that happens because, unfortunately, in my case, I know how to unhide a thread and have very little self-control

pagwatch · 23/01/2011 18:29

Ipoat is insane people on a thread.

The first thread started from a neutral subject, then somone else started about 'the insane people on a thread...' and we sort of adopted it

BitOfFun · 23/01/2011 18:30

I just click hide dementedly, Paggy. I wish there were a check box next to all threads so I could do it faster. It's quite satisfying- it feels like cleaning the page. Like housework though, it is never done. Something offensive or scary pops up sighing minutes.

pagwatch · 23/01/2011 18:32

Bof. The shit thread vigilante.

I will I had your control. I am in the weak ass corner with Jamie.

BitOfFun · 23/01/2011 18:33

Sighing? Within.

It's crap using the mobile version though, be use there's no hide button. I can only mn for so long from my phone before being overwhelmed with anxiety Blush

TattyDevine · 23/01/2011 18:34

Oh now I know what an IPOAT is. Thank you!

In my minds eye they were some kind of animal, goat like, but herd animals, after I had a dream that we had IPOATS living on our front lawn.

I think I need to hide Mumsnet itself...

MsKLo · 23/01/2011 18:38

How do you hide a thread?!

JamieLeeCurtis · 23/01/2011 18:40

lol at goat-like herd animal

TattyDevine · 23/01/2011 18:40

Oh sorry I'd already mentioned the dream, I thought that hadn't posted.

If you are logged in, and click on a thread, it appears on the options bit in the box where the top margin has "Talk: Am I being Unreasonable"

pagwatch · 23/01/2011 18:41
JamieLeeCurtis · 23/01/2011 18:41

MsKLo, and I won't tell you how to Un-hide, or you'll be sorry

JamieLeeCurtis · 23/01/2011 18:42

in bonnets, with heaving hairy bosoms

EveryonesJealousOfGingers · 23/01/2011 18:44

KLo it's at the top next to 'watch' :)

pagwatch · 23/01/2011 18:44

Dear hully. Still no luck with the depilatory turnips.

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 18:46

I'm just lazy and I don't give a shit...I also like to have a quick peek and cuss under my breath...but others they will..the facility is there.. they choose to use it

belieber · 23/01/2011 18:48

I hide the brave babes threads because I don't like the alliteration in the titles.

DitaVonCheese · 23/01/2011 19:19

I want to hide the fancying Justin Fletcher thread because the title makes me feel slightly queasy (I haven't actually clicked on it though ). I think it's died now though.

KalokiMallow · 23/01/2011 19:29

No matter how many times I get told what IPOAT means, I still read it as "I pee on a t..." and get confused.

Articulate · 23/01/2011 19:34

Definitely not a thread about a thread...more a thread about a thread title, yes yours Body, it caught my eye, I haven't actually got around to reading the thread yet (very much hope my literacy isn't too bad!)

You haven't upset me at all, it just got me wondering why people hide threads Grin

It's [thread hiding] just something I've never thought about doing, and I wondered why people did.

Liking the hides thread/fuck off thing.

Anyway, some good explanations here, so I now understand why some people do this.

Articulate · 23/01/2011 19:38

I quite fancy Justin Fletcher. In a kind of primal 'wouldn't he make a great dad' way.

Seriously.

AnnoyingOrange · 23/01/2011 19:39

I hide threads with annoying/stupid/crude/upsetting titles

and those that I have no interest in which keep bobbing up in active convos
