towards pre school snacks?

ds has severe allergies and i supply his soya milk, biscuits and raisins every day. the other children up untill now have received their milk, etc for free.

The pre school now want all parents to pay towards the fruit biscuits etc every week but the cows milk is still provided free. i said to them that surely if the other children get their milk free then why cant i carry on supplying ds snacks (costs me about five pound a week) and not pay them but they are saying i have to contribute for the fruit.

surely if the other children get free milk and ds cant have it why cant his fruit be free?

You need to speak to your child's key worker about ensuring they are included in activities.

However if the preschool is a charity and anything like ours they are probably really pushed for money and basically operating on a load of goodwill from the staff and committee.

Our staff are mostly minimum wage and then give extra time for parent meetings, fund raising, staff meetings and committe meetings all for free and end up being the ones who bake and contribute cakes for fundraising!

To be honest I get rather fed up of the parents who are all to ready to complain but never to contribute, perhaps if your preschool has a committe you could get more involved and help fund raise and set the fees so they are fair and equitable to all!

i did actually used to be fundraiser when dd was there! sadly though my dc also have other probs and couldnt keep up with it due to lots of appts.

i appreiciate they are probably short of funds but that shouldnt impact on any of the children

my dd (who is now 8) has nut allergy, used to have from birth until a couple of years ago all dairy and egg allergy too. she went to state nursery (connected to her infant school). tbh i don't remember them asking for any money towards fruit, they might have done. dd couldn't drink the milk but she used to 'nibble' on a banana..... but i would have paid the money had they have asked. when it came to cooking, they were really thorough/efficient, they would pre-warn me so she wasn't left out and check the ingredients with me first ie if they were using egg noway could she join in (be terribly ill if touched raw egg). if you make sure theya re aware of allergy you could do, as i used to, take in ingredients that she could use instead. ps: your son may well hopefully grow out of his allergies, i never thought dd would ever grow out of hers but i am still so thrilled that she can have dairy stuff now and the last few weeks been able to have egg as a cooked ingredient too!! so bloody hard over the years with food issues ie the fear as well as sadness connected to it ie when other kids have biscuits at school because it is someones birthday (you could give the school a packet of biscuits with your sons name on for such occasions so he isn't left out)
