To wonder if the queen ever has beans on toast

We have just come back from a walk, freeezing!! So we had beans on toast with an eggy on it - tescos own beans because i dont like heinz. White processed bread Blush. It was yummy - its the sort of thing that i only ever enjoy eating when im starving, but i do enjoy it.

I wonder if the queen/royal family have ever just thought, hmmmm, im hungry i'll just have some beans on toast, or do they have the staff whip up some quails eggs or fois gras??

Gotta feel sorry for them really, they dont know what they are missing!

She probably refers to it as "commoners'" food. Sadly, a bit like me with processed foods for children!

Then again, the newspaper article "bust up" showed that her cereal is served from Tupperware...so maybe she is partial to beans on toast?

fluffles · 23/01/2011 15:17

i reckon they probably do eat a lot of old fashioned 'comfort food' up at balmoral - the sort of stuff 'nanny used to make' or that they serve in really posh boarding schools.

the queen doesn't strike me as particularly 'cordon bleu' in her tastes.

have you seen the film 'the queen'? i reckon she's just like that up at balmoral Grin all tweedy and walking the dogs, driving landrovers and wearing her headscarves.

onimolap · 23/01/2011 15:18

I bet she does....

blametheparents · 23/01/2011 15:19

Yeah, Duchy Original baked beans!

AllGoodNamesGone · 23/01/2011 15:21

I expect she does but only on wholemeal bread!

(I am partial to a processed white doorstep as a treat meself!)

LadyOfTheManor · 23/01/2011 15:22

Check the tins in the shop next time you're there and see if any of them are "By appointment of HM"...then you'll know. Twinings supply the Palace...as do ermm some make of marmalade whose name as escaped me...

ednurse · 23/01/2011 15:23

or maybe a nice fishfinger sandwich Grin

brightlightsandpromises · 23/01/2011 15:34

Ladyofthemanner - i've often wondered about that, does that mean they really supply the queen or is a bit like Cheryl Cole and loreal?

ednurse - nom nom nom

I bet she's never sat in front of the TV with a jar of peanut butter and a head of celery in her jim-jams though

LadyOfTheManor · 23/01/2011 15:40

Yes-well it's not really a sponsor situation, they genuinely provide the Royals...and in return they get to use it on their packaging. I shall look out in Tesco and see if I can find anything odd that is supplied there!

BendyBob · 23/01/2011 15:43

She probably has 'Haricot en tomate du pain et oeuf' or summat like that (my French is dreadful, as you can seeBlush)

Served on a silver platter with a big shiny lid and a butler to wheel it in. Just like us really...maybe notGrin

TattyDevine · 23/01/2011 15:51

Wilkins & Sons are the jam makers I think

And James Bond's favouite ham was "Little Scarlett" which is also made by W&S

I sometimes go to their factory cafe for a toasted tea cake Grin its just down the road here in rural Essex innit.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 23/01/2011 15:51

According to her tweet on twitter the other day she could 'murder a sausage sandwich' so I reckon yes Wink

LadyThumb · 23/01/2011 15:56

This is why she had her own small kitchen installed next to her rooms at Buck House - so she could make her own cup of tea and have bacon and eggs!

hahhahahahahahaha!!!!

was going to write 'in her pants' but thought that was a bit unregal like

Grin
TheFarSide · 23/01/2011 16:40

I heard she sometimes makes herself scrambled eggs in the evening.

oldbeforetime · 23/01/2011 16:51

Every thing makes perfect sense and I bet she does -

other than

the celery and peanut butter - that is minging - that is what all prisoners should be served as their 3 meals a day!

deardot · 23/01/2011 16:58

Has anyone else ever pondered how the queen is a bit short and squat? Like she looks like she enjoys a few biscuits in an evening. Surely with all the media moaning about skinny models putting pressure on women and being negative role morals. Surely a queen has to be some kind of role model - chubby, married to an arse and bad taste in clothes. If it is good enough for the monarch then it should be good enough for everyone?

Feels so wrong trying to say that. How detached is the queen that she is not even a role model in any aesthetic, political or moral way?

Deaddei · 23/01/2011 17:25

I have heard she is partial to a Fray Bentos pie

northerngirl41 · 23/01/2011 17:28

One of my more eccentric relatives is obsessed with the royal family - she reads absolutely everything about them, has all the tea towels etc. - and insists loudly that the Queen and Prince Phillip have a kettle in their bedroom at Buckingham Palace to make pot noodle with because all the food is cold by the time it comes up from the kitchens!!! Erm, okaaaaay.... Hmm

She is truly barking though.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 23/01/2011 17:31

The queen and Phil don't share a bedroom!

brightlightsandpromises · 23/01/2011 18:26

I shall check the pack of pot noodle northerngirl, see if there is a crown on it!!

This thread has made me laugh.

But I don't think checking the packaging for coats of arms is foolproof, as I think the company can use it on all their products if just one of them is by royal appointment.
So you might get one on Heinz beans, but actually the appointed product is tomato soup or something Grin.
HP sauce has one, remember being enthralled as a child at the idea of the queen tucking into a bacon sandwich with HP.

onimolap · 23/01/2011 19:42

I must be getting obsessed - I looked at the tins whilst I was cooking. Heinz do not have Royal warrants on baked beans, tomato soup or alphabetti spaghetti.
