The map of the forests up for sale is in the news section-it's horrifying and it's your children who are going to loose out-forever.

Our local forest in Devon is adored by all of us locals and every weekend is full of bike riding children. Many people have worked so hard and we've now got pump track,a gorgeous cafe,Go Ape, an art gallery, stacks of gorgeous trails to walk and bike along.

Because of the huge amount of fast cars on our roads kids don't get out on their bikes enough even down here in Devon. The forest is the most perfect place for kids to do exercise without realizing, get dirty and enjoy nature.

Last week my 7 year old was cycling yards ahead of us and a deer ran across the track in front of him,he'll never forget it.

If the gov get their way our lovely forest(and yours) will be sold off as some Centre Park theme park, golf course or worse. Who can afford Centre Park holidays????Yes not many, so this amazing facility will only be available for the rich or a select few. At the moment they're ours and the gov are trying to steal them from under our noses. When they do our children will have lost them -forever.

So GO SIGN NOW!!!!!

They can sell the forests but the existing paths and rights of way have to STAY! It would be going backwards after the last big campaign for the right to roam accross the countryside.

I would buy a bit of forest if I won the lottery.

bluebump · 23/01/2011 19:28

Why should other people pay for your choice to go and see woodland?

Better you pay an entrance fee and support them yourself.

Spidermama · 23/01/2011 20:00

I love going to the woods. It's my birth right. They've no business selling off woods to people who only want them for the money and have no interest in protecting our heritage.

Fucking Tories.

They are like vandals rampaging through our heritage and culture making radical changes without even having a proper mandate.

These are scary people. They must be stopped.

bees474 · 23/01/2011 20:35

Hate the Tories- seriously, selling our trees????? With no mandate. BASTARDS.
Are they going to buy the oxygen back off the private companies?

Spidermama · 23/01/2011 20:38

They are all exactly like Montgomery Burns.

pascoe28 · 23/01/2011 20:40

spidermama and bees474 - I hope you spent the weekend in the woods, because these reforms are going to happen.

bees474 · 23/01/2011 20:41

pascoe you've been busy spreading Tory shite all over the place this weekend- you must have some extra time on your hands- are you in fact Andy Coulson?? Rumbled!

ManateeEquineOhara · 23/01/2011 20:42

Fucking hate Tory twats and their stupid ideological bollocks. Angry Signed already btw.

pascoe28 · 23/01/2011 20:46

bees474 - it says something for the general tone of the place where a few common sense and Conservative ideas are derided with such venom.

I'm not surprised - many posters on here have clearly sucked on the State's teat for so long they don't know what paying one's own way involves...the very idea scares them.

TB and GB have a lot to answer for...the way they bribed the middle classes on payments they did not need but came to rely on.

bees474 · 23/01/2011 20:48

Pascoe is it really common sense to sell off schools and libraries? It's the Tory flexibility with the English language I think I hate the most- fairness, justice, common sense.... I don't think so.
Now go back to hacking people's phones....

ManateeEquineOhara · 23/01/2011 21:00

Pascoe, you really do seem to be a narrow minded imbecile.

Of course their ideas are derided with venom - they are vile.

mercibucket · 23/01/2011 21:07

New Tories are Thatcher's children of course! Thatcher tried to do this first in the 80's

emy72 · 23/01/2011 21:23

Pascoe - it sounds like you have a not very hidden agenda.

Surely the forests of this country, like the seaside and similar other nature reserves belong to the people who populate this country and surely it is people's opinions that matter? Or are we now living in a dictatorship?

It certainly feels like it. I used to love this country but since the Tories have come in I feel like escaping fast.

The Tories have no mandate. They did not win a majority at the election. The LibDems campaigned on a ticket of 'slower deficit reduction'. The combined votes of Labour and Libdem (both on a slower deficit reduction) are more than the votes of the Tories.

They told lie after lie before the election and in the coalition agreement - VAT, NHS, child benefti etc etc etc. They are ripping the heart out of the country and they will make it a far worse place for our children to grow up in.

mercibucket · 23/01/2011 21:32

Sell sell sell sell that's all they do - sell our land - sell our assets. Asset strippers essentially. thatcher's children.

Jesus Wept. What sort of drugs do you have to take to think like this?

mercibucket · 02/02/2011 22:06

www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/feb/02/forest-sell-off-cameron-listens

I'd ignore the part about Cameron listening and concentrate on the sums - selling off England's forests and woods is going to cost the country money, not save it money, according to govt. own analysis. So who is going to be making money out of it then?? hmmmm - will go away and ponder that.
btw - anyone remember this from anyone's manifesto? thought not. but cast your mind back to Thatcher (those of us who are old enough) - she tried the same thing

Garcia10 · 02/02/2011 23:03

YABU - if my understanding of the policy is correct.

I believe that the land will not be sold but leased. The intention is to lease the land to such organisations as the National Trust and the Heritage Trust who do fabulous work looking after other national resources. The current policy states that the public will have similar levels of access to the land as they do at present.

This is similar reaction to the government's policy on tution fees in somuchas people are forming opnions by reading the headlines and not the detail.

I am happy to be corrected if my understanding is flawed.
