don't ??? me. it's true!

mackereltaitai · 22/01/2011 22:46

Well, no. He's a good comic actor who is getting better and better over time. There are a lot of his performances I would hate not to have in my head - he was born to play Bertie Wooster, he was unfeasibly wonderful in Blackadder, and of course he stars in my . But he is not the kind of actor that blends into a role, and IMO that's top flight acting.

My choice: Kevin Spacey.

Squitten · 22/01/2011 23:02

Dunno about the best actor in the world but ever since watching House I've been a bit in love with him :)

Tryharder · 22/01/2011 23:13

He's fab isn't he! Loved him in Blackadder, love him in House and he sort of turns up in loads of films playing different characters and you think "bloody hell, that's Hugh Laurie..."

I thought he was good in Stuart Little...

Mumwithadragontattoo · 22/01/2011 23:14

I love him. Especially as Bertie Wooster. If he's not the best he must be close.

fireblademum · 22/01/2011 23:14

What squitten said

Cyb · 22/01/2011 23:14

House is just grown up Doogie Howser, isn't it? With a gammy leg?

PatPending · 22/01/2011 23:19

Hmmphh ...... well I love Johnny Depp cos he is so versatile (and pretty good with accents).
I do like Hugh Laurie - just don't think he is more than good though.
Kevin Spacey - yes, pretty darn good.
For female actors it would have to be Meryl Streep - again so versatile.

MsKLo · 22/01/2011 23:20

He's ooohhhhhk...

Hate house though!

He's just average to me

Viggo mortensen is a great actor!

atswimtwolengths · 22/01/2011 23:44

He is truly wonderful.

EenyMeenyMaya · 22/01/2011 23:55

A great actor yes, best of all time, probably not. I am completely amazed at how goddamn sexy he is as house though, compared to every single other role he has ever played. How is it possible to be so sexually unattractive and then irresistable with one role? It's the same man after all... David Duchovny achieved the same feat for me with Californication. Prior to that yuk, now....!

Hugh Laurie managed to convince the yanks he was one of them with his accent too. It was only when he accepted his Emmie, in a British accent obviously, that most of them realised he was British.

ilythia · 23/01/2011 08:28

Complete agreement. Versatile and funny. And I have always had a soft spot for him since Blackadder.

OmniaParatus · 23/01/2011 09:59

He is very, very good at House.

My dad, who was also an actor, had severe arthritis, which affected his knee and legs particularly badly. He moved EXACTLY the way Hugh Laurie does when playing House, favouring leg more when getting up, grimacing slightly when putting weight on it, easing up slightly as he moves. He has really done his research as it spooked me the first time I saw House, how similar their movement was!

I thought he was good, but not exceptional in other roles, but he was definitely born to play House. And yes, he is surprisingly sexy!

AngryBeaver · 23/01/2011 11:04

I think he's shite,sorry!
Every time I've seen House,I have cringed.
It's awful,he is awful,his accent is awful...and to sum up...well, it's shite Grin

LtEveDallas · 23/01/2011 11:10

He's on the top of my 'to do' list
