To have become addicted to mumsnet

Bearcat · 22/01/2011 21:59

My husband says he's gonna divorce me and cite mumsnet as the reason ( I think he's joking)
He bought me an ipad for Christmas, which means I can sit on a comfy chair in front of the telly rather than have to sit in the chilly hall next to the computer surfing away on mumsnet!

Valpollicella · 22/01/2011 23:53

My name is Val and I am a MN addict. For 3.5 years...

It doesn't get any better people!

BaronessBomburst · 23/01/2011 00:08

I'm weak.

I'm also an hour ahead so I'm off for some sleep.

I'll be back

TimeForACHEEKYWine · 23/01/2011 00:26

i read a newspaper article and joined. the first thread i read and LOL at was the pooy puff thread Grin

plupervert · 23/01/2011 00:33

I once read about the, frankly rather pathological, behaviour of mice who clicked addictively at a switch which sometimesdispensed a treat, compared to mice who "gave up on" a switch which initially dispensed treats, and then consistently did not. The former mice were addicted through the very uncertain nature of reward: hope was keeping them there. In the same way, clicking at F5 will sometimes dispense the "treat" of some MNer's witty comeback, but most often will not, particularly if it is the second time in a minute it has been clicked!

LairOfTheDetermined · 23/01/2011 00:46

Grin you know you are an adict when you keep hitting f5 and swearing cause mn says it has gone offline and then wonder how the hell it got to be 3am ish when it was 11pm the last time you looked at the clock.

plupervert · 23/01/2011 00:47

x-posts!

KalokiMallow · 23/01/2011 01:36

You know you're addicted when the sight of the "try again in 30 seconds message" fills you with terror. Grin

BitOfFun · 23/01/2011 01:45

The pooey pouffe thread was mine. I don't know whether to feel proud or liable Blush

Bearcat · 23/01/2011 09:53

The AIBU is probably my favourite thread only discovered it in last few weeks although I had been addicted to other threads, namely 'style and beauty'(not that I'm either of those 2 things).
Am stood against kitchen work top at moment posting here instead of making my breakfast.
Just about to show DH this thread that I started (raised eyebrows from him), but I know he's dying to see your comments.
See you all later, off to Sainsburys after breakfast then I'll be back!

You know your an addict when you find yourself quoting mn in real life "well someone on mn said" i have even put dh or dd in texts.I also bore update dh on threads when he gets home.To be fair tho i have been off work since i was 26 wks pg and mn is often my only conversation. I am having baby on Thursday so i wonder if my addiction will end...but then i am going to need support re, feeding and sleeping and pnd and in laws etc etc {hmm}

ledkr · 23/01/2011 10:19

or even Hmm

plupervert · 23/01/2011 11:05

Oh, I do all those things, ledkr!

MrIC · 23/01/2011 13:29

god I'm relieved - I thought my DW was a mumsnet addict, but now I've read what you lot have written I've realised she's way off addiction!! There's still time for me to break the cycle! Grin

Mssoul · 23/01/2011 13:36

BOF, the pooey pouffe was what drew me in too. In fact dp and i read it together and both pissed ourselves, so I had his blessing. He now just walks in, finds me on the laptop and shakes his head in a sympathy/mild contempt kind of way Grin

KalokiMallow · 23/01/2011 13:39

MrIC It's a slippery slope, you may well be too late Grin

I've rarely had work colleagues as fun and interesting and diverse as you all, so don't really regret developing this alternative social life.
