Bad Mother Alert!

I do try to look interested and I adore them all and am very proud of them, but FFS! 5 minutes I can cope with, but this morning every half an hour or so has brought "MUUUUUUUUMMMMMMEEEEEEE!!!! Come and watch this dance we have made up for you" "Listen to this song..."

Yes yes, very nice, now can I get back to reading my shitty novel and surfing the internet please?

Ummm YABU

compo · 22/01/2011 15:13

Can't you take them out somewhere and read your novel when they're in bed?!

ByTheSea · 22/01/2011 15:13

Welcome to the world of being a mum!

Shitemum · 22/01/2011 15:14

I just tell them i'm not watching it till they've rehearsed for 2 hours. They usually forget all about it...

Bogeyface · 22/01/2011 15:16

Dont get me wrong, I dont mind once in a while but this has been going on for the last ...oooh 5 hours? There are limits!

YANBU & it's worse when they want a song we don't have so they need my laptop to find it on youtube which means I can't even mooch on here whislt they reherse.
singing I don't mind.
Dancing gets a bit to much after 5 seconds minutes.
But the plays............ ughhhh

Bogeyface · 22/01/2011 15:22

Oh yeah the plays....it could be worse couldnt it?

They have stopped now and fallen back on the good old favourite of arguing and fighting, so back to normal!

You need them to make tickets with a time written on them and allocate seating and all that.

TheSleepFairy · 22/01/2011 16:10

Ah but tickets & times means a real theatre will be needed which would mean me having to re-arrange the living room & bring in dining room chairs for the 100 dolls & teddies which will be bought down stairs & then they will want a refreshments stall which will mean begging for biscuits & crisp to sell in little bowls.
And whilst I am moving everything around & pouring pringles into bowls they will have a fight & one of the 3 will declare "THAT'S IT I'M NOT PLAYING"

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2011 16:14
Shock I'd forgotten all about that bit.
Bogeyface · 22/01/2011 16:19

:o we have had the tickets/teddies/chairs thing here on occasion too! And they spend so long sorting it out that they forget the actual play and 2 minutes in they have a row, eat the nibbles and its all off.

I think I prefer that because the actual time spent as the audience is relatively short!

What about camps though? They must rank in the top 3 surely. All the duvet covers, table cloths & dining room chairs spread all over the house & then one will shout "LET'S BUMP DOWN THE STAIRS IN THE DUVET COVER", & then I end up being the spoil sport for stopping broken limb stair skating races Hmm I love them really [Grin

We're just getting into this now at 3.0 years. DD got an ELC piano for Christmas and she puts the backing track on the makes me watch her dance. Again and again and again and again...

FiteFuaite · 22/01/2011 16:35

YABU

UnquietDad · 22/01/2011 16:36

Haha, oh yes, the "shows".... remember it well...

swanandduck · 22/01/2011 17:00

Oh I am so glad I'm not the only one who gets silently a bit fed up when they interrupt me reading to show me their concert or dance or to get me to judge 'X Factor' and argue when I say they were both so good it's a tie.

whatdoiknowanyway · 22/01/2011 20:16

My own kids I could just about tolerate.
My friend's kids who would insist on putting on shows for the adults when we had a party...
All the other kids were happy to play together in another room but these particular kids would cry if the adults didn't stop what they were doing to watch them. Their parents just smiled indulgently. Had to stop inviting the family in the end.

My head says YABU but my heart says YANBU Smile

We have just gone into this phase. I get recitals which consist of DD (4.7) playing her keyboard and the recorder at the same time. I made the mistake of teaching her how to play 'When the saints go marching in' on the keyboard and now she insists on playing 'Wayne the saint marching in'. Her other favourite is 'I love that baby Jesus, I really do, oh baby Jesus!' sung in a very sincere fashion. Which is absolutely fine, except she has never set foot in a church and DH and I are both atheists so whilst I have no problem with what she is singing, I do wonder where on earth she got it from!?

I told her yesterday that she could play on the wii because I couldn't take anymore. Blush
