How often does he check his testicles?
I wanted to ask because when my partner (aged 24) was checking his, he found a lump that turned out to be testicular cancer.
It was caught early, treated quickly and today we are celebrating his one year all clear. I have champagne at the ready but before we get sloshed merry, I wondered if your partner checked his balls?
Please could you talk to your husband, fiancé, brother, uncle, dad, nephew, son (or any friend or relative you care about) and remind them to check themselves. If he already does, please remind him to do it monthly and give him a big pat on the back!
In the scheme of things, testicular cancer is one of the rarest cancers. BUT it's the most common cancer occurring in younger men (that's probably your age group - 15 to 45 ish). It happens in about 2000 men per year in the UK and early research suggests it's becoming more common. The good news is that it's one of the most curable cancers, especially when caught early. Testicular cancer is usually painless, so checking the testicles regularly is the most effective way of spotting anything that might concern you.
What's important is to know what's normal for him, so he should be checking your balls regularly. FIDDLING IS NOT ENOUGH
. If he (or you) spot any changes in the way the ball, balls or scrotum looks or feels then get an appointment with the doctor as soon as possible. Don't put it off. Most testicular lumps are NOT cancer, but early detection is a huge help if it is cancer.
