I was asked by a friend who's going to have a baby if I could recommend any baby book. I said I like Dr. Benjamin Spock's, and she said that's a very old book and why was I reading it? Hmm

To be honest, I have other baby books at home, but I think Dr. Spock is very accessible, sensible and easy to follow. It not always gives you a straight answer but I guess that's another beauty of the book, its flexible approach.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a good book?

I have my Mum's copy! Complete with all our childhood illnesses dutifully marked in the back like a good 1970's Mama. Some of it's dated but most is perfectly sensible, so YANBU.

Same as Katie, I have my mother's copy-or at least, my sister and I have it on rotation. It is a very good book, sensible and reassuring. I also like the fact it isn't written in the excruciatingly sentimental style of most modern books. I need a new copy though, ours is held together with Sellotape.
