I logged into ebay an hour ago to pay for an item I won late last night via Auction stealer. I was actually in bed at the time!

I see a new message and its from the seller, who hadnt sent an invoice, that said "You have won this item and still not paid, can you please pay immediately and I will dispatch today"

FFS, this was 14 hours after the auction ended, and I always understood that payment within 3 days was fine for ebay ettiquette and 7 days to avoid ebay reminders.

I did consider not paying for another 2 days on principle but I would like the item soonish so darent risk him being an arse!

WIBU to say something about it on his feedback when I get the item?

Unless its something really out of order I tend to avoid it, as ebayers have access to feedback you have left for others also. You will also get feedback from him, so I would personally refrain, but I do take your point.

Grandmar · 18/01/2011 14:10

Leave negative feedback when you receive item

SwearyMary · 18/01/2011 14:11

I was just about to be totally pedantic and correct you Grin

YANBU. 48hrs would have been an acceptable length of time to wait before stamping up and down over payment. I would mention the lack of patience but I wouldn't make the feedback negative or otherwise unless the impatient cock ebayer is slow to post the item to you.

Bogeyface · 18/01/2011 14:13

I dont leave neg unless there is a big problem, but I might mention that the item arrived from an IMPATIENT Hmm ebayer!

I don't think it sounds that rude. Perhaps they were off to the post office and keen to dispatch the item.

Certainly wouldn't mention it in feedback.

TheEvilDead2 · 18/01/2011 14:14

YANBU

NinkyNonker · 18/01/2011 14:15

Yeah, poorly phrased but maybe they just meant if you pay now I cm post today?

sickoftheholidays · 18/01/2011 14:22

YANBU. I would pay now and send an email tomorrow morning at 8am and say "I have paid almost 24 hours ago and STILL have not received my item"

overthehillmum · 18/01/2011 14:29

I'd send them an email saying you had paid for it and weren't too happy with the wording of their email, their response would decide whether or not I leave them feedback that says Item Arrived or Great Item, thanks..., I personally wouldn't leave a negative for this if the item is fine and it arrives, I would mark them down for their communication when you leave them feedback, too many low scores impacts on their selling ability.

I had a parcel take it's own sweet time to get to us. So much so that I warned the seller that it still hadn't turned up, well after she said she had posted it, and to warn her it may be lost.

There were a few days until we could put a claim in, so I said that i'd be happy to wait until the end of the week, to be sure.

Ok so english was not her first language, but her reply was a bit terse.

I called her on it, saying that I thought her email was a little harsh.

She explained that she has had an awful lot of hassle from buyers in the past and once she looked at my feedback apologised and said she'd refund me the full £6.00 and IF it turned up to send her £5.00.

I was shocked at her gesture. The parcel turned up a day later I think, but the Postman put it behind my bin screen.

I sent her the full £6.00

Point of my thread is that so many people on Ebay are dicks tbh and try to get away with all sorts, the trouble I have had with bloody sellers this year is just shocking. It really puts me off buying through ebay at times I can tell you.

Give the person the benefit of the doubt and remind them that you are paying well within guidelines, thanks for his keenness to dispatch, the money has now been paid.

edwardcullensotherfairy · 18/01/2011 15:04

My guess would be that they were heading to the post office, and if you pay now it'll be sent today, otherwise it could be a few days before they post again.
Might be an idea to send a message re the tone of theirs though - some people can be a bit terse without realising it. I often have to rewrite DH's messages to buyers because he writes them a bit "straight to the point".

TandB · 18/01/2011 15:29

The seller may have had difficulties with late payments recently and just be feeling a bit touchy.

I was a bit surprised about an ebay message today. I am selling a large item on Ebay (won't say what is it is baby-related and I am paranoid the would-be buyer is a MNetter!)
She contacted me yesterday to ask about postage on a collection-only item. I noticed she lives less than a mile from the flat which I stay in two nights a week when I work in London so I said that if she bought it I would bring it to London so she could collect it and avoid courier costs.

She then replied asking me to end the auction early, accept £50 less than the buy-it-now price and deliver it to her personally. Um, no!

Bogeyface · 18/01/2011 15:47

Cheeky mare KungFu! Still I you have to give her points for trying!

I just object to the inference that I am late paying, after a week they would have a point but less than one day?!

I'll see how it goes from now, and will probably mark down the comms rating.

Thanks :)

yabu - it's not really all that rude or threatening anything if you don't pay, just pointing out that it's in your interest to pay now.

AngelHMum · 18/01/2011 16:38

It may be an automated message.
Lots of ebay sellers send automatic reminders about payment and these can be personalised. They can be sent immediately a listing ends or at pre-determined times.

Sellers on ebay are under so much pressure these days - they are scrutinised for everything. I recently was marked down and given a negative by a buyer because the item was not posted in 1 business day "despite saying so on the listing."
The listing actually said items are posted within 1 business day of receiving cleared payment and as the buyer didn't cough up for 4 days I didn't send it until they had. They still wrecked my stars and 100% record though.

My guess is that the seller is trying to avoid low ratings by reminding buyers that they have an item to pay for.
However I can see that perhaps the message could be phrased more diplomatically so as not to cause offence.

It can be quite annoying for a seller to see items "sold" but not paid for.
If I were you OP - I wouldn't take it to heart but maybe message back with your intention to pay. That would set my mind at rest as a seller.

Deciduousblonde · 18/01/2011 16:45

I am a regular seller on ebay and I always wait a week before I expect payment. In fact I put on my listing that as long as I am contacted within 3 days regarding payment I don't mind.

After all, not everyone is glued to a computer 24/7. Maybe I am too relaxed, I don't know..but luckily I have rarely had a problem. I have had a few buyers wait a week to pay me then kick up a stink within 2 days when their item hasn't arrived. Tossers.

You aren't being unreasonable. That email would have irked me.

izzywizzywoowooo · 18/01/2011 16:47

YANBU - Ebay gives buyers 7 days (I think) to pay, regardless if the seller doesn't like it or not!

I would leave a little note in feedback. Sellers can't neg buyers anyway.
