To lie about age in order to get asthmatic DD swine flu vaccine privately

DD has asthma and is in the at risk catergory for swine flu. Our GP's surgery has run out of vaccine and now has a long waiting list and admitted she might not get it at all and suggested we go privately. The private hospital nearby is offering it to over 3's but my DD is 2 years 7 months. It is the same vaccine that the doctor would administer to her, the only reason they won't give it to under 3's is because the nurse isn't licenced to administer it to under 3's - it was under 4's but they changed their policy last week.

sorry i can understand your reasons but yabu.

minibmw2010 · 18/01/2011 10:15

Unfortunately I think YABU, you would be putting that clinic in a terrible position if (god forbid) something were to go wrong and your poor child had a reaction.

rasta · 18/01/2011 10:18

YABU. I don't think lying regarding anything medical is a wise idea TBH.

wizardora · 18/01/2011 10:18

Yanbu, nevermind the clinic I think you are being put in a terrible position! What a tough call... I imagine the chance of your DD getting serious complications from the virus is higher than from the vaccine

I doubt it would work - they may well ask for your red book, or some other proof of age anyhow (especially for a child who looks borderline for age).

And I strongly agree with minibmw's point.

Memoo · 18/01/2011 10:21

Absolutely rediculous idea!

weblette · 18/01/2011 10:22

YABU - as Pixie says, you'd be putting them in a very difficult position.

As a matter of interest - was your surgery late in offering it to at-risk groups? My asthmatic ds was given his in October.

belgo · 18/01/2011 10:24

YABU. if something went wrong they could sue you and you wouldn't be entitled to compensation.

jinglebelly · 18/01/2011 10:25

YANBU, imagine if God forbid your DD did get very ill with it and you could have prevented it? I think your loyalty lies with her rather than the private hospital, are there no other NHS surgeries offering it so you wouldn't have to lie?

belgo · 18/01/2011 10:28

jinglebelly she could have prevented it by getting the vaccine last autumn.

As it is, it's probably too late anyway to have the maximum effect of the vaccine at the height of the flu season.

Sirzy · 18/01/2011 10:33

I have to agree with the majority YABU. DS was lucky enough to get the last dose of it in our practise but if he hadn't then I wouldn't have thought about lying about it.

He was late getting his as he had only just been diagnosed as asthmatic and first point he was healthy enough to get it.

Arion · 18/01/2011 11:37

Could you explain to the clinic, buy the vaccine in the ampule and get your dr to administer? Friends of ours have bought vaccine from chemist (who can't administer as child only 1) and nurse at surgery then administered jab

wizardora · 18/01/2011 18:27

Have you decided what to do yet OP?
