C4 - The Adesina Family breach of contract?

I enjoyed the first two seasons of the Family and was equally looking forward to the 3rd series, featuring a Nigerian family (The Adesina's). However, soon after the series was aired, the eldest daughter Julie (whose scenes were edited in an extremely negative way so as to get bigger ratings) started accusing Channel 4 of duplicitous behaviour, namely not paying her what they initially promised. Unfortunately, she deleted the twits/facebook messages claiming this, but here are some other twits;

"Unfortunately, you haven't heard the worse of it yet. For the whole truth to be told I?ve gotta b stronger than I?ve ever been b4" 5:53 PM Jan 11th via web

" : when i think about how much they edited the truth, i feel beyond disgusted at how low they stooped in the name of money". 12:33 PM Jan 11th via web

Am I unreasonable in thinking that C4 knowingly exploited a poor Black family for ratings?

I don't understand this thread. Why do you even care?

Unless you have some insight into the personal contractual relationship between the family members and C4, you're upset based on hearsay?

If C4 really did renage on their financial contractual obligations she could always sue them.

If the family went into this venture without understanding how or what or if they were getting paid then perhaps they were a little misguided in the first instance?...

Like all tv programmes, if some aspect upsets you can always switch off.

Tom - It must.

Atomant - My issue is not with the series; and yes, it seems they were misled and were perhaps not capable of knowing they were being misled at that time. I do hope she sues them and wins.

Nowhere have I stated that I was upset by this, just sharing my thoughts, hence the question, "am I being unreasonable in thinking..."

I care because I have a strong sense of right and wrong, and if someone, especially an underdog is being treated unfairly, then I will say something. You don't have to understand my motives, only to tell me whether you think I am being unreasonable or not. I think your last post indicates you fall into the latter category so thank you for your contribution.

Twirlymum - No problem, and thanks for clarifying what you meant. I honestly always thought they meant the same thing Smile.

I do think YABU but only because your claims are based on rumour and cannot in anyway be substantiated. You are making massive assumptions that the family or members of the family were not capable of understanding what they were signing up to. I find that quite patronising if you're only basing this on the edited version of a tv programme and discussions on other Internet forums by people who may or may not be members of the family.

I was trying to understand your motives because it seems such a strange cause to promote if you don't have any facts or know any members of the family.

If however you did, then that would make a difference to whether I personally thought you were being unreasonable.

I'm not trying to be mean spirited as if C4 have taken advantage as you suggest then clearly that is very wrong.

This has nothing to do with race. Julie was 25 years of age at the time, I was 15 years of age at the time of airing, and I even I was not naive to the fact of editing reality programmes/ documentaries to make for good TV.

She wouldn't be compensated, she would be paid for being on TV.

We don't know the facts so I'm not sure how one is able to be opinionated on the topic of contracts.
