To think that government advice isn't aimed at the obedient?

First there was the "don't drink at all in pregnancy" advice as you can't be trusted to know what a unit of alcohol is and stick to a low limit. Now it appears that part of the reason for saying "don't wean until 6 months" was to decrease the number of people weaning before 4 months. All of this means that people who try to stick to the guidelines end up having an unnecessarily shit time. I've has enough guidance and my 4 month old DD is now trying to wean herself on newspaper.

It's stupid isn't it?

There is no way I could have ever put my dcs weaning off until six months. They were frantic for something to eat at four months.

YANBU. Produced with the very best of intentions no doubt but most of these things are aimed at the lowest common denominator with a bit of wiggle-room for good measure. Not restricted to babies, of course. There is no aspect of modern life that doesn't have a string of recommendations (which change sooner or later) and I think anyone trying to follow all of it 100% faithfully would go stark staring nuts.

Can't be arsed any more. :)
