I'm a conformist to the pattern, Mum had DB at 23, and me at 25. I had DD at 24. She was made a Granny for the first and second time aged 49, DB got in there with the first grandchild just before me Angry Grin

My grandparents friends are always shocked, they're becoming grandparents for the first time (which I find surprising) and my grandparents are already great-grandparents. I'm the eldest grandchild at 29 and my eldest DN is 9. Grandad is 69 and Grandma 67.

cat64 thats it exactly!! It really freaked me out for a few days...I remember us playing with our dolls and riding our bikes and trying our make up. sigh. Those days are long gone.

Its awful isnt it? You feel no different to when you were 17...still find the same things funny, still like the same songs, still secretly love Luke Skywalker Blush and then you look in the mirror and think; "aarrghh, who did that to my face!!!!"

I saw 3 of my friends die in their early 30s so the one or two that are now grandparents in their late 30s suddenly doesn't seem such a big deal. But I do understand what you mean- especially feeling 17 inside then looking in the mirror (or getting on the scales!) Smile

Geepers · 15/01/2011 12:38

I am alleged to have become a grandmother at 31, but the father's paternity is under some question. My son doesn't want a DNA test despite knowing this and is happy to accept the child as his whether it is or not. He is 17 and i had him when i was 14.

Bogeyface · 15/01/2011 12:42

I was 17 when I had my eldest and my mother was 39, she was thrilled Hmm

The mother of my dd's best friend has just become a grandmother by her eldest, at 31, which I admit did shock me. Although that was mainly because I thought she was in her 40's rather than her dd being 14 when she had the baby!

Bogeyface · 15/01/2011 12:48

Thinking about it , DH is is 46 and most of the people he was at school with (well who are on his FB anyway) are grandparents, and we are awaiting the birth of his first child! That is weird, and he is getting a bit paranoid about being the oldest dad in the playground!

charliesmommy · 15/01/2011 12:55

Bogey.. we are TTC at the moment and OH is 49.. I am 40.. it will be our first child together.. but he has 3 from his previous marriage, all grown up, and 2 grandchildren..

it will be quite a weird family set up!! my stepson is finding it amusing that he will possibly have a sibling younger than his daughter!

But my MIL was only 17 when she had hubby, so at 66 she is looking forward to being a gran again as she was only in her 40's when the last lot were growing up, and feels like she didnt get chance to do much with them as she worked full time then.

JoBettany · 15/01/2011 12:57

I would be shocked - very shocked. But just because of my own experience. My granny, mother and I all had out first children in our early 30's. To me 60 is the sort of age for being a grandparent!

Most of my friends seem to be in the same position too. I am still attending christenings and first birthday parties of their children not grand children!

ensure · 15/01/2011 13:00

My grandma was a great great grandma at (thinks) 71.
She became a grandma again the same year funnily enough.

wishingforcrystalball · 15/01/2011 13:06

I will confess it on a forum but not in RL, but I would like to be a young grandmother, I had my eldest at 17, so if trend does follow I will be grandma in under 3 years. As I have younger siblings still to look after, I would quite happily have a grandchild to look after.

But I won't be telling my eldest that, she can make her own decision.

xstitch · 15/01/2011 13:07

That's a bit like my family zipzap. I am the baby, having cousins a lot older than me. (they have children in their 20s.

There are a few people I went to school with are grandparents and I am only 33. I am however in denial that I am old enough to be a Gran. DP's mum became a Gran at 36.

thenewMrscullen · 22/03/2011 21:02

upyourdiva · 22/03/2011 21:06

My mum was 36 and had 8 month old twins when she became a granny :o

She had me at 17 and I had DS at 19.

upyourdiva · 22/03/2011 21:09

Ooh snap MrsCullen, my DS is 8 months younger than my sisters.

It is a bit odd but I love the fact that the 3 of them run riot now they are 5 and he will be 5 in June :o

lovinme · 22/03/2011 21:19
