These are all the swear words I can think of off of the top of my head:

Is it swearing to call someone a fanny? What about asking them not to 'fanny-about'?

I was told that about twat ScotlandR. And I believed it for years!

I was trying to explain to DD (11) yesterday evening that crap is not really a swear word, it is just short for Thomas Crapper. I use the shit word freely too... But never ever the C-word.

I think slut is pretty bad.

Is slag a swear word? Or a softened form of slut?

Dunno, FindingStuff, it's pretty nasty - maybe a 'red' word?

I'd say slut is bloody offensive, but not necessarily a swear. It's a lifesyle insult, like the rest of that ilk (whore, skank, ho, slapper, slut, slag). I suppose I'd lump in in with homophobic insults too... Although some of those are quite graphically rude, rather than just rude by implication (bone smuggler, shit digger, arse inspector)

I love the fact that twat is a cuntish swear word to some and along the same lines as arse, for others.

My DS came home from school last year (aged 7) with Cunt as his new word - I explained what it meant and why it was not an acceptable word - and have done the same with all other unacceptable words. Nowadays he rather amusingly uses words like Fudge, Fish, and Sugar in place of them.

When he was about 5 we were at a big shooting weekend with friends, our dog took a side of ham off the kitchen table whilst we were in the dining room so after much scolding I brought her through to sit where I could keep an eye on her. She rolled onto her back and lay there awaiting attention, at which point I said "oh Gyps stop being such a slut" DS piped up with "Gyps is not a slut mummy you are..." everyone fell about laughing but I was mortified!!

Munter should be up there surely, considering what 'munting' means. Or maybe it's on a frequency of offensiveness so high that only dogs and Mumsnetters can hear it!!

'Twat' is def a regional thing & has different meanings.

I live in the US, where they don't know what wanker means. When Chris Martin called Bono that, they were all v happily using the word, in front of dd, and I kept yelling 'nooooooo' i don't want my 5 yr old knowing that word.
