it is none of my business, i am so sad to even notice this

BUT

why, when there are two adults with an infant in a carrier, do some people put the infant in the front passenger and have the other adult in the back? or put the infant in the back and have the other adult sit in the middle back seat right beside it as if something devastating might hapen if they sat a whole seat space away?

go ahead, I've got my flameproofs on.

probably if the seat is already in place, its easier than faffing about moving it around

and if both were in the front and the baby started to choke, its not always convenient to stop

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 12/01/2011 15:49

but why the adult in the middle seat rather than the other seat nearest the door?

i am asking because i just noticed my neighbour's parents drive away with tehir grand daughter and i laughed because the daughter in law doesn't even strap the seat in when she put the baby sideways in the back seat. Hmm

I do it - it's the only way DS will travel happily and I'm ok with taking the risk of an accident (not had one yet in 15 yrs of driving) if it means we get to our destination in peace. He gurgles away in the front and I can more relaxed driving as I can see and talk to him. When he's in the back, he cries and I can't concentrate on the road because I'm so anxious and end up pulling in every two minutes.

I can hardly believe you're asking - isn't it obvious?

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 12/01/2011 15:51

no not obvious, that IS why i am asking Hmm. i would have thought that was self explanatory.

no idea about sitting in the middle seat.. its not the comfiest place in the car either..

sparkle101 · 12/01/2011 15:58

I have my baby in the front and if DH comes in the car he goes in the back, as chaliesmommy says it's because it saves moving everything around.I have her in the front with me as thisfeelsweird says so I can see her and not worry.

When we are in DHs big car she goes in the back and we are both in the front.

JBellingham · 12/01/2011 15:59

Just unbuckle the carrier with the child in it and pop it in the boot. Nice quiet trip.

NinkyNonker · 12/01/2011 16:00

I thought you weren't meant to put baby seats in the front seat?

InterruptingCow · 12/01/2011 16:01

Maybe the seat doesn't fit in the back. When our car broke down, we had to borrow MIL's car and the seatbelts in the back were not long enough to go around the rear-facing car seat. Seat and baby had to go in the front seat, I had to go in the back.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 12/01/2011 16:01

some cars you can ninky. it is all to do with if you can turn your airbag off or not.

good point interrupting.

ok so can anyone explain when the baby is in the back and the other adult sits in the middle seat rather than the side where tehy get into the car?

When it's grandchild not own child, often people feel VERY responsible and so go overboard.

I let dd go up and down the stairs on her own - shes 2.10 and very good on the stairs. We live in a 3-storey house so she's had lots of practice. (we use stair gates at night). However, CM still holds dd's hand going up and down. DD is not her child and she is trusted with her care so is more cautious.

Also, in my old car, which had two doors, I practically had to turn the car seat on its side to get it in the back so used to put dd in the front and DH in the back for short journeys. Far less hassle.
