to expect my DSs to play for half an hour

I have a really awful toothache and I'm feeling sorry for myself. DH is working away until Thursday. My DSs are 3 and 20mths. DS2 is pain most of the time to be honest - pulling me around by the hand, crying and wanting a lot of attention. DS1 is OK at playing by himself most of the time but today obviously not he is winding up DS2. I have taken them to a playgroup this am - they had lunch then I managed to get them to nap whilst I rang around dentist. They woke up at 2.30 and we made iced biscuits. I am in a lot of pain now have suggested and set up the duplo for them to play with and the brio train set but no DS2 is screaming because I won't indulge him in leading me around and DS2 is jumping about like a loon - (too much icing!) I need to sit down on the sofa and wallow - am I expecting too much I'm going insane - no one to come around and occupy them as no family near by.

Probably are expecting too much really Sad

The youngest wont really understand that you're poorly and is probably picking up on your change of mood. Do you normally indulge him by letting him lead you round the house by the hand?

YANBU. But you also have to teach/encourage children some independence and with your 20 month old it won't happen over night. It does sound like you are trying this anyway by setting up something to play with and stepping away. I know my DC went through this clingy stage.

You sound like you have put loads into your day already (tooth ache or not). Do you have a TV that you could put them in front of for just half an hour? I know it's not the answer to everything but it might be today...

Hope your tooth gets better.

Ah, lots of sympathy from over here. Mine are a handful too.

I'd be impressed by making iced biscuits any day, but especially with toothache. I agree with mental, sounds like time for a DVD or a bit of cbeebies....

did you find a dentist?

mutznutz I do often let him take me to another room to get him whatever he wants then I walk away and after a few mins he is back. He is a trying toddler. After just having a screaming fit, he is sitting on my lap watching cbeebies whilst DS1 is taking and interest in the duplo. Why after spending close to £100 on 2 set of duplo for xmas aren't they that interested in it but love the half broken toys at playgroups? Hmm
