To pick up a dead bird with a plastic bag!

My DH and I actually had a disagreement about this!

He wanted to pick it up with the dustpan and brush then put it in the plastic bag and throw the dustpan and brush away because "it only costs a quid and we have the baby to think of"

I went outside and put my hand inside the plastic bag, picked it up so it was inside the bag, my hand never touched the bird and then I washed my hands afterwards.

He thought that was awful and unhygienic and that a plastic bag will still let germs through and that the baby will now get ill!

Please tell me IANBU!

Ps. he has no problem with me sorting out the cat litter tray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I will wince. I am always surprised how lazy people are and will use expletives rather than think of words that more correctly mirror their thoughts and feelings. And anyway- how can we expect to raise polite, socially adept children with good manners if they hear their parents talking so sloppily?

Lauriefairy was just remembering the time she had to dispose of a parrot who'd lived with bandits and picked up their linguistic tics.

Kitsichick - mumsnet is for adults - swearing here doesn't mean people are going to swear in front of their small children.

Mumsnet is a pretty robust forum, and in my opinion, people are using swear words because those are the ones that best mirror their thoughts and feelings - I know that I only use them when that is the case.

I doubt this is going to change in the foreseeable future, so I hope you will be able to acclimatise to it.

YANBU this is how I pick up dog poo (my own dog's, obviously - I don't go round picking up the stuff for pleasure) and I've never experienced any leakage!

What does he do when he changes nappies, don a full chemical hazard suit with breathing apparatus?

he doesn't have germ issues about anything else, I think he was just being squeamish because it was half a dead bird.
