My brother and sister currently rent seperate appartments, their rent contracts are both coming to an end and they've decided that they're going to get a place to share as it will be cheaper as they can share costs. My cousin seems to think its weird, I don't think its sensible. AIBU

I don't think it is weird, not sure if I could live with my brother though...his room still smells like teenage boy.
Would be better than 'normal' flatmates situation though as some people have said as expectations would be similar and rows would be more fun and over much faster.

Very sensible, and lots of siblngs do it. Makes complete sense, and as they are just renting, when one of them does meet the love of their live/go travelling etc, it will be easy to change arrangements.

I would happily have shared with any of my sibs. I even shared my one bedroom flat with a girlfriend when she split up with her boyfriend and had nowhere to go for a few months. Two single beds in the bedroom. She had somewhere to live and I had help with the mortgage for a bit. The sofa got used on the rare occasion either of us pulled. I think people should do what works for them.

KalokiMallow - certainly is uncomfortable with any housemate, yes...but I could deal with hearing a friend going at it...I'd be weirded out if I heard my SIBLING!

If they were sharing a room and a bed it would be weird. Your cousin is creepy and weird.

They lived together preseumably for at least 18 years why would it be odd to do so now?

The only issue I could see is if one of them is a bit "protective" of the other. No one wants their big brtoher eyeing up her one night stand the morning after the night before!

My friend rents a room in her house with her boyfriend and her brother rents another room in the same house - whats weird about that? YANBU op.

I'd share a flat with my brother, it'd be great fun. We go on holiday with his family a lot and have often joked about letting DH and SIL have one cottage and we'll have another. Then we can sit up gassing and watching Fr Ted all night and DH and SIL could moan all evening Wink

i don't think it's strange if they get on well. I went backpacking with my bro as his girlfriend was working abroad.I know different from living together..but if it suits them and they get on..it makes sense..better than having risk of finding an unsuitable potentially dodgy stranger to share with!

My Ex lived with his sister for years. Nothing weird about it at all.
