to get a cleaner?

I have 2 DC's, one on the way. DC1 at school, DS2 starting nursery 2 mornings a week, DC3 due in May. Once number three is here I'd like to get a cleaner in one day a week to clean the house (hoover, polish, wash floors, bathrooms, ironing). We can afford it, although we are by no means 'well off'. However, I don't have a job, and so it could be argued that the housework is my job.

AIBU?

Yanbu - I have been on maternity leave for a year and have one. I bloody hate cleaning.

I pay £10 an hour and am in London. This goes directly to the cleaner though not an agency (who would take a fair whack before passing any on).

Do it. You dont need a job to justify a cleaner. There's still plenty to do with 3 kids in the house, once a week isn't all-encompassing. You'll still be wiping the toilet each day, and another 7 months or so you'll be scraping weetabix off the wall, as I'm sure you remember. A cleaner will keep your heads above water in the meantime and mean that at least once a week, it will be clean and tidy.

Also, having a cleaner come is good motivation to "tidy up" so piles of junk or mess get dealt with - good motivation for all members of the household to sort certain things out once a week.

YADNBU - I'm a SAHM and have got a cleaner. She comes for 3 hrs per week and we pay £9.50 an hour we're in SW London.

I initially got a cleaner recommended by a friend but after turning up twice over a period of 5 weeks she decided she didn't want to work afternoons. I was very annoyed.

Anyway, I've now got a cleaner via an agency which is much better - very reliable and if she couldn't work one week (illness, holidays) then the agency would send a replacement.

I only got a cleaner after DS2 arrived 8 months back - its AMAZING Grin

I have one, and I have two little ones DS2yrs and DS1yr. As said previously you are a SAHM looking after your children as a priority and on top of cooking, tidying up, playing, feeding washing etc etc etc having an extra pair of hands to give the house a good going over once a week is a winner if you ask me.

My personal view on the SAHM thing is, if I CAN get it (housekeeping) done within normal 'working' hours (8-5pm) then I will. If not its a joint responsibility of myself and my husband as it would have been when we were both 'working'. So unless hubby is prepared to chip in too then its a no brainer - its not 'you' wanting a cleaner its 'you two' needing one.

Essentially if it takes away stress from your life and means you are able to spend more time on your 3 children then go for it.

This is all IMO! 2p's worth thrown in!

YANBU, if you can afford it then why not. I hate doing housework and will never do it as long as I can pay someone else to!

YADNBU I am expecting twins in July and have a 30 month old, I am getting one, we are in NW and my friend has a cleaner and pays her £10 an hour

YADNBU Job or no job there are better things to do than clean. Go for it. Life's too short.

YANBU. I am in Southwest (rural area) and pay £7.50 an hour.
