I havnt seen a baby/toddler drinking tea from a bottle for years (insert yucky face)

When I was growing up (be about 14/15) my friends newphew (who would be about 2ish then) always seemed to have a bottle of tea!

I dont know what horrified me more, the fact that a toddler was drinking tea, to me it was a grown up drink, or the fact that the tea was cold Shock

By the way I've always hated tea, so maybe that had something to do with it Grin

That light brown, milky drink (puke)

TotorosOcarina · 10/01/2011 09:54

Lol, my DD always has my last few sips of tea but its in a mug!

I saw a dad pour full fat coke into a babys bottle the other day, baby was about 9 months old Hmm

BlueCollie · 10/01/2011 09:59

My son has a bit of tea every now and then but it is in a cup and he's 1. I love tea though and come from a family of big big tea drinkers Grin He doesn't get anything else though apart from milk and water.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/01/2011 10:00

Coke in a bottle [happy memories of Bangkok and DD being given it].
I too can't bear tea, it is nasty stuff. DD was given a cup of 'milky brew' by the son of a friend over christmas. She wants it for breakfast now [vom] with three or four spoons of sugar.
She gets orange juice as usual.

wheresmejumper · 10/01/2011 10:14

Me ma used to give us tea in a bottle when we were younger..I love tea now!

Your DH would fit in well here..I saw a girl in the supermarket yesterday letting her 2 year old ish child drink Lucosade and I immediately thought "Mumsnet!"

MisSalLaneous · 10/01/2011 10:16

Ds never really took to it, but I did try and give him weak or milky Rooibos tea (Redbush tea - a caffeine free South African tea) when he had tummy ache as a baby. It's actually very good for their digestion, high in antioxidants, low in tannins, etc.

So, whilst I appreciate most tea given would be normal milky black tea, your husband could be judging unfairly.

TrillianAstra · 10/01/2011 10:18

My brother always wanted a bottle of tea to be like Dad. What he had was a bottle of milk that had been near a teabag, but it made him happy.

I suppose we should be being judgy about him drinking milk from a bottle once he was past needing baby milk.

BuzzLightBeer · 10/01/2011 10:20

I had tea in a bottle as a kid, very common where I was. My young kids have it sometimes. Whats wrong with it? Better than juice in a bottle.

monkeyflippers · 10/01/2011 10:22

I don't really see the problem with tea. It's water (good) milk (good) and has been recently shown to be quite good for you with antioxidants or something (so good). I think it is more of a snobbery/judgy thing to be honest.

My kids have tea in beakers just because if they had it in a cup they would spill it everywhere. (bracing myself for all those who are disgusted by kids have milk/water/tea mixture . . . shock horror!)

Psammead · 10/01/2011 10:24

Almost every baby I know here drinks herbal tea in their bottle. What's the problem?

Is your husband's comment only about black tea? That's understandable, but fennel tea, for example, is great!

The problem I would have would be the caffeine. Decaff is different, I guess!

monkeyflippers · 10/01/2011 10:27

Should have added that it's decaff.

looplou · 10/01/2011 10:31

My kids both had tea in the their bottles when they were babies (now 10 and 7) and they still drink it now. It's better for their teeth than juices and they like it. I am common Grin

Eglu · 10/01/2011 10:34

I think that it is different if it is decaff. However I still don't think tea should be given in a bottle. Only milk should be given in a bottle. Sippy cups are for other liquids.

BuzzLightBeer · 10/01/2011 10:34

why? what difference does it make?

Takeresponsibility · 10/01/2011 10:37

Will he fit in well on MN? I don't know - does he get easily distracted and post a whole page about tea entirely missing the point of the thread?:)

monkeyflippers · 10/01/2011 10:38

why? what difference does it make? - it's cos she's posh!

tjacksonpfc · 10/01/2011 11:09

My dcs both used to drink chamomile tea as babys, is that acceptable?

As it was in a bottle. Grin

Eglu · 10/01/2011 17:29

why? what difference does it make?

It is not because I am posh - far from it.

It is because drinking from a bottle is bad for their teeth.

Personally wouldn't give a child caffeine in any form. It has quite a strong affect on the neurochemistry of the brain. I especially would avoid giving anything with that kind of action (I would include alcohol here) to children because a) thier brains are still developing and b) they can't make an informed choice for themselves. I try to ration it for myself - one or two cups a day - and not let it sneak up (caffeine that is...not alcohol Wink).

Acinonyx · 10/01/2011 17:35

Yes altinkum - agree that's also a good reason to avoid it.

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 10/01/2011 17:37

I loved Camomile tea as a child and occasionaly give that to the dc but in a cup.
