To recon that those who don't believe alien species have visited the earth are just kidding themselves and scared.

And I don't mean the snoring/dribbling species sat next to you Grin

We don't know that much about the universe, but the little 'we' do know I recon shows that the probability of other species existing on other planets is more than likely.

If you took it that the number of galaxies we can see at the min has been estimated at 50 billion, and as a conservative estimate doubled that to include the ones we can't see yet, that'd give us a hundred billion galaxies in the universe.

If you said there were about 100 billion stars per galaxy (give or take a couple of billion) and timesing that by how many galaxies there are would mean there's 10 thousand billion, billion (or sextillion) stars.

If what the scientists believe isn't true, and stars that have planetary systems are rare, and just one star in every million had planets orbiting it, that would give ten million, billion planets in the universe.

If amongst those planets, ones that are able to support life are also pretty rare, and only one planet in each million can support life, that'd give us ten billion planets in the universe that can support life.

If you think of how much our technology has developed over the last 100 years, I don't think it's too far a stretch of the imagination to think that the technology of a species that evolved a thousand/five thousand/50 thousand years (I mean what are those time periods when compared to the age of the earth?) before us, could have come up with something in that time that would get them to us?

I've never seen a UFO, or encountered anything weird, but I know that if I did I would be shit scared, so I'm not saying that people who don't believe they've visited us are big girls blouses who just can't face up to the truth.

But I wondered how you're able to ignore the vastness of space and the fact that if we can exist, why wouldn't others?

And why wouldn't they want to have a peek at us to see how we organise ourselves and whether our cakes are worth the bother of a visit?

To me there's more proof they exist than proof they don't...isn't there?

(It might look like I'm donning a hard hat, but it's actually a technologically advanced helmet that'll protect me from buns their weirdy alien thought experiments, good innit )

For real.

AgentZigzag · 08/01/2011 23:45

Fuck me Shock

You're not 'one of them' are you cathy??

You're not as advanced as I'd have imagined, couldn't be bothered to get to grips with the nuances of our languages??

WTF have you been up to while you've been here?

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 08/01/2011 23:47

I see no evidence for your claims fairycake...

Not being sarky zig!

I really do love star trek - if only I had a body like 'seven of nine'...

If the world was like in star trek deep space nine it would be great - wormholes and mixing with other species!

Kapla!

AgentZigzag · 08/01/2011 23:54

C'mon msklo, put a bit of aggression into it QAPLA', it's like you don't care.

Oh blimey, maybe I'm more a geek than I wanted to think I was, I've watched far too much star trek than's good for me in the past.

I love the wormhole aliens, if that doesn't sound to pervy Grin

hehe bless you shriekingharpy, I may have been a tad overentusiastic, I get like that when I know I'm right.

I'm no expert either, but the tin foil hat is a good preventative measure, you never know where those pesky aliens are hiding.

MsKLo · 09/01/2011 10:46

oops!

got the spelling wrong - sorry zig

I love all the star treks, voyager was my favourite

love the star trek film too...

so you fancy some of the aliens? oh dear...

I love zachary quinto (i think thats his name) in the star trek film, he is fwoarrrrr!

BuzzLightBeer · 09/01/2011 11:32

You don't think that if aliens had visited earth someone might have mentioned it, other than drunks and crack-pots? Theres not enough conspiracy in the world to keep it quiet.

Possibility of life on other planets, absolutely, sounds highly likely. Having the ability to visit this far flung planet and having any interest in it since it would be massively backwards technologically, much less likely.

AgentZigzag · 09/01/2011 11:49

I bloody hope all the military and commercial pilots, who know what's usually in the skies and see things they know don't have run of the mill explanations, aren't pissed up crack-pots buzz.

Unless you're saying that all the credible witnesses who do see anything that on close investigation don't have a rational explanation, are either drunk or have mental health issues?

The police, military personnel, astronauts, who are putting their careers at risk reporting what they've seen, all nobbers eh?

OP posts:
BuzzLightBeer · 09/01/2011 11:58

Just because you see something in the sky that you don't know what it is does not mean you have seen aliens. UFO means unidentified flying object, it doesn't mean alien space craft.

If aliens had visted the earth in this day and age where everything is on 24 news media seconds after it happened, we would know about it.

AgentZigzag · 09/01/2011 12:27

I agree that just because you see something unexplainable it's not automatically/necessarily aliens, but credible witnesses who know their shit and fly day in day out know full well what they've seen isn't a weather balloon or meteor or reflections.

I'm not a conspiracy theory junkie, but if you think everything that goes on makes it into the news, I think you're mistaken.

It's not what makes it onto the news agenda that's important, but rather what's chosen not to be broadcast.

Like I said in my OP though, if I saw real evidence of them being here my blood would run cold, which could explain why they don't say, there'd be worldwide panic ie war of the worlds broadcast.

OP posts:
BuzzLightBeer · 09/01/2011 12:30

But why would they fly around in the sky and not do anything?

I dunno, I'm all about the logic, and aliens on earth theories are all to my mind highly illogical. Unless of course I'm a vulcan and don't know it?
Grin

UnquietDad · 09/01/2011 12:41

There are a BILLION BILLION stars in our galaxy. Yes, a billion billion. A billion times a billion.

So even if you thought that "the chances of anything coming from space were a billion to one", there'd still be a billion stars out there able to support life.

Just in our one little galaxy.

Worth a thought, eh?

AgentZigzag · 09/01/2011 12:43

Who knows WTF they could be up to, which if you'd really seen something you believed was them, would be a tad worrying.

I'm sure if they were after mining our stocks of cakes we'd know by now, but I don't like the idea of us being watched either, like a specimen under a microscope - creepy.

Most things are illogical, like why people smoke/drink to excess when they think it's bad for them, doesn't make it any less real.

OP posts:
BuzzLightBeer · 09/01/2011 12:46

there is logic in why people drink and smoke, its not illogical.

You could be right. But I won't believe it until there is proof. I absolutely and totally believe there is life somewhere else. But not that they are here.

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/01/2011 12:54

I'm with Buzz...

Also, isn't there a theory that we're the aliens? Or, perhaps, locusts that inhabit a planet, strip it bare and then fly onto the next one?

ENormaSnob · 09/01/2011 14:55

Yanbu

I love thinking about stuff like this. Me and ds1 have some in depth coversations about these issues.

AgentZigzag · 09/01/2011 17:22

Yeah ENorma, I like letting my mind wander onto it when I'm doing lunch, scrubbing the bog, cleaning up dog sick.

A harmless escapism.
