Female teachers having sex with students

Is this happening more frequently now or is it just being picked up on more than in the past, possibly due to facebook/texts etc leaving a trail of evidence? What motivates women to go after boys much younger than them? Trying to recapture their youth? Maybe they didn't get the "school hunk" when they were at school so now is their 2nd chance?

I do think it's certainly tackled more now which is a very good thing indeed.

Whilst at school, my 14yr old friend was sleeping with the (32yr old) technology teacher. They're married with children now but the party line is that they met up again after she'd finished school. Likewise, I was very aware of a couple of college students sleeping with teachers. Always older male teacher, young female student though. No I lie, two men once.

I did go to a nice school you know.

"come to think of it, thank god none of my teachers fancied me!"

that raises a very good point. For every teacher/student relationship that works out, there must be several instances of the teacher coming on to the pupil and being rejected, or vice versa. Urgh.

I knew of one lecturer who went out with a student. She wasn't his student, however, and they had written permission from the Uni :o. It was a lot easier to handle as they would never cross paths professionally: one did Science, one did Arts.

I'm with spidookly on this.

just because these teenage boys aren't aware of or traumatised by what happened, doesn't make it ok and doesn't mean it isn't an abuse of a position of authority.

Goblinchild · 08/01/2011 12:20

Agreed.

Showofhands, I wonder how your friend will feel when her daughter (if she has one) reaches 14yrs old. Genuine question btw, as she is married now and presumably never felt exploited.

Will you PLEASE use the media requests forum like all the other journos?

CheerfulYank · 09/01/2011 09:53

I used to work with teenage boys and so now have that barrier so firmly in place I can't imagine it. Ewwwww....

I have a friend who owns a shop and some teenagers (older teens, they've graduated) come in fairly often and they say quite inappropriate things to her, and she says them back. Occasionally they try it with me and get a cat's bum mouth, because to me it's just...yuck.

I feel perv-tastic for lusting over Finn from Glee, for crying out loud, and in RL he's older than me! :)

I kind of know what you mean, and had a former colleague who used to go after first-years (bleurgh), but they are adults. I think it's much more common with PG students. Where I work it is not prohibited but it has to be declared to the dept so that you don't ending up teaching someone you're in a relationship with.

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 09/01/2011 13:01

I think it's always happened. I had a fling with a teacher in the 6th firm and one of the girls in my year married her economics teacher 2 weeks after she left school!

NinkyNonker · 09/01/2011 17:10

I don't think it is a new phenomenon, and I doubt it is more common that the reverse...male teacher/female student.
