To still want to carry dd?

Literally. In a sling? She's getting SO heavy. I will be able to do maybe another month in the Baby Bjorn I reckon (she's 7mo now) but what then? Any ideas?

I find buggies a bit of a faff if I'm honest but is there another way?

even though I have an ergo, it is very versatile. when cold I carry dd on the front, so she can be partly in my coat. sometimes I carry her on my back, which is very comfortable for both of us (and less hard on the back).

I used a Patapum toddler sling until dd was 2 (she's 3 now, and still fits comfortably in it, but prefers to walk herself).

good website with loads of sling advice and friendly is naturalmamas.co.uk

glovesoflove · 09/01/2011 08:56

Thanks! I think there is a sling meet near me but I'm SCARED :)

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 09/01/2011 08:58

we arent scary Wink well not after we have put our morning faces on.

thre is often one at the royal festival hall in london. not sure when the next one is, but always a good mix of carriers and ages of babies/toddlers there.

The Ergo is incredibly comfortable after the Baby Bjorn. You ask what's wrong with the Baby Bjorn - well you're having trouble carrying a 7 mo for a start. When you put your LO in a properly designed sling you'll be able to feel the difference immediately.

Like you I used a Baby Bjorn and thought it was great. Until it started hurting my shoulders when DS got bigger (and I didn't know about the crotch dangling thing then).

When I put DS in the Ergo baby (probably at around the same age as your LO) the difference was amazing.

Now I hate Baby Bjorns and wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. It make me Angry that the design is so crap (crotch dangling) but yet they continue selling them because there's profit in it, rather than redesigning them, which they could if they wanted to.

HTH

Oh, hold on. The Ergo is only suitable if they can sit with their legs apart. (I forget how old they are when that becomes possible).

If your DD isn't ready for this then you'll need to get the insert which goes with it.

mousymouse · 09/01/2011 09:42

the ergo is suitable from 4 months/ 7 kilos. there is a newborn inset for smaller babies.

Goingroundthebend and Glovesoflove - I would say woven wrap to both of you. For a child with mobility issues, the wrap gives you versatility. you can try different carries until you find one that works for you. I would also say it is better than a stretchy wrap for an older baby as you can put them on your back - better for your back and nicer for them as they can look around when they want to and put their heads down and go to sleep if they are tired. You are also hands-free!

The RFH sling meet is very good btw. Not so good for those of us with active toddlers unfortunately!

goingroundthebend4 · 09/01/2011 11:03

Hmm I wonder if it's worth me getting into London if there's not a sling meet nearer would they think I'm weird though because of ds age even though reality is he is not much bigger than most toddlers

goingroundthebend4 · 09/01/2011 11:06

I want something that if his legs are tired that I can use quick and fast but is small easy to carry when it's not needed .he is just to heavy to carry on my hip after a while

moomaa · 09/01/2011 11:11

I vote for the ergo too. I loved mine for non walking DD1. I also have a BB and I like that too. Have just had DD2 and will be using BB until she is too heavy, I don't really like the ergo with the newborn insert, think it is better for bigger babies. That's just my opinion though :)

This is SO helpful :) and a sling meet? I would love that. Am the only sling person I know and have at least two people constantly asking me when I'm going to get a buggy - would love to not be the only weird hippy in a room for a change. Am close enough to Festival Hall - should I just google or is there a forum/website?

Go on natural mammas and look in the meet-up or general babywearing sections. I am not sure if it is also advertised on the slingmeet website. There is also a facebook page called London slingmeet which you could join.
