To wish it was socially acceptable to be hairy

I would laugh with relief and cry tears of joy

I am so sick of waxing, plucking, shaving etc.

I am dark haired and have PCOS which means lots of hair in unwanted places. However I am not convinced the hair removal is for myself and having read the thread about pubic hair removal, I despair at yet another war against the hairs

I have PCOS too. I understand what all of you are feeling! It's horrible and while it shouldn't define your feminity, it does.

Because women are not supposed to be as hairy as men and if we didn't have something "wrong" we wouldn't be as hairy. I find it really hard to feel good about myself. I also have very sensitive skin so creams and potions are not do-able. I haven't got the money for lazer but I would do it for sure if I did.

HarriedWithChildren · 07/01/2011 10:00

I like to think it is my duty to show my 3 small DSs what a real woman looks like to counteract the sanitised versions they will be exposed to as they grow. Good excuse don't you think?

In total contradiction to this, I am currently having laser on face (had it 5 years ago with great results having shopped around for a good price) because I am tired of the daily pluck and don't want DSs asking questions/reporting this in public. Armpits reasonably in check, all else like rainforest.

If DH dares suggest a pruning, he is advised to get a back, crack and sac and then come back and ask again.

I have PCOS and after years of electrolysis saved up for laser treatment and it was fab! Wish I had done it sooner (was a bit scared).

I'm in on the mohair shorts! Let's see it on the cat walk soonHmm

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 07/01/2011 11:00

Absolutely, theevildead2, women are naturally less hairy than men unless there is a hormonal imbalance. But there is so much more that contributes to femininity: body shape, skin texture, voice, poise, manner. Non of these are as harshly judged as hair, I think.

@slug. I love your attitude! Must swim faster!

monkeybananas · 11/07/2011 14:19

Ok, so I'm picking up this thread a bit late but it has really cheered my up. (PCOS with a beard to rival a mans) I'm sick of plucking manually so I epilate daily but holy moley its still a pain in the butt!

MABS · 11/07/2011 15:10

yep you do apocalyse :(

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 11/07/2011 15:18

That is the reason I didn't get laser treatment for facial hair when I was working and could afford it. The thought of having to grow it is way too daunting. I live in a very Muslim area and I could borrow a face veil off a friend or buy one. That is the only way I would be able to leave the house if I couldn't remove it every day with a razor Sad. And I'm really not kidding.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 11/07/2011 15:19

You'd be better off having it in winter in that case, least you can carry off the muffled look that way.

Meglet · 11/07/2011 15:22

yanbu.

I had my legs waxed 11 days ago and they are already too hairy to wear shorts Sad. Don't even have PCOS either.

This is why I love sunbathing, my skin tans easily and my dark hair means I can pretend I'm from the Mediterranean.

Laser treatment is the first thing I would buy if I was rich. I hope DD doesn't end up like me, she's a blond toddler whereas I was dark from birth.

mummymeister · 11/07/2011 15:46

Don't shave legs, arms or anywhere else and havent done for almost 25 years. i still do get the odd comment made when in a swimming pool but i and my dh are very happy with it so tough to everyone else. I go bare legged for most of the year and really don't give a damn.

Glubs · 11/07/2011 16:42

Yup, another hairy poster here.

People who aren't hairy have no idea whatsoever what it's like to be hairy and we should't expect them to understand nor resent them for being hair-free naturally (although I SO do sometimes).
People who are hairy spend loads of money removing it in the hope that the small window of hairlessness co-incides with good weather and the opportunity to wear shorts and swimwear.

It usually doesn't.

Meglet · 11/07/2011 17:35

glubs I bought a maxi dress last week so I can now wear dresses even between waxes, it covers my ankles and everything Grin. Jeans and hot weather are not a good mix.

Hairy-ness also makes it impossible to take the DC's swimming regularly. We can only go a couple of times a month.

Poweredbypepsi · 11/07/2011 18:03

I have red hair so most of my body hair is very light BUT I get a little bunch of black hairs growing on my face on one side of my lip. No idea why.

allhailtheaubergine · 11/07/2011 18:17

I don't shave, pluck, wax or bleach.

I live in a hot country and wear shorts and vests a lot.

I don't care. I am hairy. So fucking sue me Grin.
