dd is 3.6 and quite sensitive, she has a new baby sister 6 weeks and is being quite good with her but is a bit jealous and extra cuddly with me and dp. Smile
i am totally fed up of older people's stipid comments.

MIL; ive come to take your sister, im taking her home and keeping her, we havent come for you we are here for your sister, etc etc.

neighbour; i bet you dont want to go to school now mommy is home all day with your sister.

other neighbour; we have got your sister in our house, dd said why why have you got my sister, neighbour said we have got her now we are keeping her.

What the fuck?

I actually told MIL yesterday that i am fed up of hearing such stupid comments. poor dd looks so scared/bewildered and keeps saying mommy are they having my baby.

i am ready to kill the next person.

aaaaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhh.

What a load of idiotic comments!

I had someone tell DS1 that his "whole life was going to fall apart" when his brother arrived.

Some people are just so thoughtless and I often find it's the older generation who are the worst offenders.

Mishy1234 · 11/01/2011 15:20

Just to clarify, the idiotic comments I'm referring to are not from other posters!

dds grandparents are in 70s and have some odd ideas, like scaring her with stories of ghosts then going home and leaving us to deal with nightmares, they say she needs to toughen up Hmm
they bought dd 3.6 jellybeans last week and she said no thanks i dont like chewy sweets, they kept going on and on at her to try one so she did and she didnt like it and spat it out and they were shocked and said a 3 yr old should be able to eat chewy sweets by now and they know a 1 yr old who eats them etc etc. i didnt realise eating jelly beans was essential for a healthy diet Grin

Oh Family you are surrounded by silly buggers, people are so stupid! Your MIL for sure should know better, she sounds like a right pain in the arse. Would a swift shove under the bus settle matters?

Fenugreek · 11/01/2011 15:41

I used to get this when ds2 was very small. After the first couple of times of desparaely trying to maintain social niceties while poor 3yo dd stood there, lower lip trembling, and some daft woman told her she was going to keep her little brother, me going "ha ha! No not really eh dd?! Ha ha!" . Then I asked on MN about it and people told me to put dd's needs first. So I did. If someone pulled any of that rubbish with her I would ignore the jolly japer, bend down, and firmly reassure dd that "Mummy would never EVER let anyone take ds away. He is OUR ds isn't he? And he is YOUR little brother. And Mummy is in charge, and no one can EVER take ds away. I would not let that happen." And she would be reassured, and the person would probably feel a little foolish, but no rudeness, and no harm done, and perhaps they might not do it to the next child.

purplepidjin · 11/01/2011 15:56

To add to the reassurance, can you teach your daughter to look scornful and say loudly

"Don't be silly. You'd be arrestd"

Hmm
familyfun · 11/01/2011 20:19

definitley going to put dd first as you say and make the fools realise how awful they are being to a 3 yr old.
thanks Smile
