AIBU to let DS1 name our new cat "Fluffer"?

Should I try to gently persuade him that Fluffy is a better bet (he's 3.10 and pretty set on this) or face 10+ years of the neighbours thinking I'm shooting a porn film every time I call out into the garden?

yes - dp has the giggles

TattyDevine · 03/01/2011 21:49

Just go with Fluffer. You will get used to doing the walk of shame at the Vet's when they call it's appointment.

My cat has a seriously dodgey name which I can't say for fear of outing myself but let me just say, you get used to it!!!

cocoachannel · 03/01/2011 21:55

Brilliant Grin! That's one which will come back to haunt him in adulthood!

Giddyup · 03/01/2011 21:58

My best friends cat is called Mirkin Grin

theevildead2 · 03/01/2011 21:58

Fluffer is Ok, sounds like fluffy/thumper. WIll get shortened to fluff anyway. Just look fwd to the day when dc is a teen and it suddenly dawns on them Grin

taffetacat · 03/01/2011 21:59

No idea about the porn refs, in our part of the world its a nancy euphemism for farting

Mypombearisveryold · 03/01/2011 21:59

I like it.

It is better than Fluffy because it will make people snigger.

Especially if the cat is not terribly fluffy.

DontCallMeBaby · 03/01/2011 22:00

But does it go with your surname? :o

My cats are Sausage and Pickle. Innocuous, if a little silly. Unfortunately we have all developed a tendency to refer to them as THE Sausage and THE Pickle. Combine that with references to stroking or tickling them, and you have double entendres a-go-go.

Their mother was called Harry Potter. Perfectly good name for a female cat.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 22:02

Are you sure taffeta? In many other parts of the world (afaik) it's the title of the person whose job (pardon the pun) it is to "help" porn stars be and stay ready for their scenes.

Horopu · 03/01/2011 22:06

I had a hamster called Balls as a child.

taffetacat · 03/01/2011 22:25

ta for the extra detail, LadyBubba Grin

sure I'm sure. its one of those toe curling expressions round here I can't bear

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 22:32

:o

HalfTermHero · 03/01/2011 22:32

YABVU! I think you should continue to push Fluffy as the most viable option, lol.

MegBusset · 03/01/2011 23:12

Lol at Mirkin, and let's hope my neighbours are as innocent as some of you lot Grin

I had to google it Grin
Google is great

tribpot · 04/01/2011 19:23

I had to Google when someone used the expression "LMGTFY".

Oh the irony.

5Foot5 · 04/01/2011 19:33

We used to have a cat called Fluffybum.

LaWeaselMys · 04/01/2011 19:38

DD calls our cat Left.

Left gone!! Is a very confusing exclamation to hear.

babyicebean · 04/01/2011 19:56

Tribpot - Tiberius is Captain Kirks middle name Blush

whensitgunnahappen · 04/01/2011 20:04

My best friend's 5 yr old has a little dog, called marvin from jls. We just call him marv

coldcomfortHeart · 04/01/2011 20:11

We had a cat called Pussy, named by 3 year old sister. Was when we had lots of american friends. We were waiting for the school bus one day when my sister looked down at her jumper and exclaimed, 'oh no! I have Pussy hairs all over me!' my mum and the other mothers were bent over double laughing

Spidermama · 04/01/2011 20:13

I know a cat called Pokey Nose because a small child was allowed to name it. I think it's great.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 04/01/2011 20:14

Apparantlt Fluffers are no more since the advent of Viagra. Soon it will be as antiquated meaning as when it meant people who cleaned the Tube rails :(

So it will just mean your cat :)

tribpot · 04/01/2011 20:37

babyicebean - oh yes, I know that (I work in IT, such knowledge is mandatory). I don't know the tortoise is named after Kirk rather than, say, the Roman emperor, but in ds' mind the cat would be called after the tortoise. I have no idea why he (the tortoise) has made such an impression, although he (yes, the tortoise) is my friend on Facebook for purposes of Farmville :)

Butterbur · 05/01/2011 13:22

I had never heard of fluffers until now. Apart from that, I think it's a great name. But then we had a cat called Big Boy.
