Yes he can stop himself, maybe this story will make it clear to him he can:
In our town we have a group of homeless who hang around outside a church on the High Street. They are often High/drunk, I don't blame them, they have tough lives and often mental health issues. One day one was ranting including swearing as I walked past with my DD in her buggy, he then spotted the buggy and apologised for swearing. If he knew swearing in front of a child was wrong in his state your DH should too.

My DH comes from a heavily swearing family and workplace. He used to swear nearly every other word at home until we had our DD. He still swears if he's angry, bangs his thumb with a hammer, etc, but if he can stop, then other people can.

I on the other hand come from a completely no swearing family. My father (a teacher) always said that people only swear if they lack sufficient vocabulary to use adjectives.

DH's swearing always upset me and I made it VERY clear that he would NOT be swearing in front of our DD. I think she has probably accumulated enough swear words to stand her own over the years (11), but I hope she knows it is not generally acceptable.
