Spend money on crap you didn't even know you wanted, lose weight for summer, buy an exercise dvd.....Argh!
Is it only me who feels like this?
We get pushed into doing things at certain times of year.
Especially jaunaury.

Are many of you doing all three?

No, its way too stressful. I'll be just the same old, same old!

theevildead2 · 03/01/2011 11:43

No, I was reading a shit glossy magazine yesterday and saying the same to DH. Every article was about being thinner, being a "new you", getting fit...

I just want to say fuck off, I'm tired and just getting over xmas.

coastgirl · 03/01/2011 11:51

We have a gym at work and I'm dreading going in January - it'll be full of people who have Made a Resolution taking up the machines and not knowing how to work them. I know how many people go to that gym; I see the same half-a-dozen people every time and we all get along just fine, thank you!

JaxTellersOldLady · 03/01/2011 11:51

haha, I dont mind the sales, online, cant be bothered rummaging through piles of crap and fighting with a zillion other people for a tea towel reduced to 50p. Hmm

Would like to be slimmer, but hey ho, wouldnt we all if a miracle happened? and no, I dont want a DVD to do, I have 3 dogs to walk and swimming to do with the children, that is enough for me thanks. Besides, I already have quite a few slimming/exercise DVDs gathering dust.

AMumInScotland · 03/01/2011 11:53

My inbox is full of emails about the sales, and even Tesco has emailed about diets and fitness machines. I will probably do something about the few extra pounds I'm carrying when the spring comes, ut till then I'm eating stew & dumplings!

NewYearNewPants · 03/01/2011 11:55

Amen, sister! Grin

I never lose weight in January. It's cold, it's depressing, the house is full of leftover food from Christmas. Spring is a much better and more realistic tie to embark on any 'get fit' programme, imo.

I hate the January sales. I can't be arsed to wade through jumble sale-style rails of last season's tat just to save myself a fiver. Plus I am skint after Christmas. I don't even have a fiver.

I think January should be the time we all go incredibly easy on ourselves.

upahill · 03/01/2011 11:55

No Sales my DH has done enough shopping for the street!

Not a new exercise regime or weight loss but a continuation of the one I'm doing.

tyler80 · 03/01/2011 11:58

I hate the fitness push at the beginning of January. At my local leisure centre all the fitness classes get fully booked and the swimming pool is overcrowded. I look forward to the end of January when all the new starters have given up already and it's nice and quiet again.

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 03/01/2011 12:06

Not looking forward to the gym today. It'll be full of people who have Made Resolutions.

I'm not dieting, I'm up duffed so have a legit reason. Ditto clothes sales....

I'm quite liking some sales though as have lots of expensive baby kit to buy.

said · 03/01/2011 12:07

I'm not giving up booze either.

mommmmyof2 · 03/01/2011 12:09

I don't really have the new year resolution type thing, but i do say if i put a few pounds on over christmas that i will try and eat healthy to shift them. But if i don't then i don't, i hate feeling pressured to do things by press and the media hype!!
If i want to loose weight or exercise or do anything it will be when it suits me.As for spending money, well i still paying for christmas Confused and proberly will be till next christmas.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2011 12:10

I might give up booze for a couple of days at the beginning of January, but only because I have a hangover...

Lots and lots of weightwatcher ads on TV at the moment. Did you notice there were loads for dating sites over Christmas, presumably for everyone who is feeling lonely?

BaggedandTagged · 03/01/2011 12:20

My personal trainer once told me that a well known gym chain in the UK has a business model which assumes that only 5% of members go to the gym more than 3 times a week. At least 50% of members go once a month or less. If everyone went, no-one would be able to move. More than 25% of all gym memberships are taken out in Jan.

I am on the wagon for a month- do it every year to prove that I can. Going on hols first week of Feb so can then enjoy retoxing.

FoundWanting · 03/01/2011 12:26

Not dieting, shopping or exercising.

But, all those adverts have given me kitchen-envy. Can't afford to re-do ours even at half price, nothing to pay for a year, interest-free credit. Sad

Remotew · 03/01/2011 12:30

I had a quick scan around the sales last week but didn't buy anything, got bored after half and hour. If I need something I will buy in when all the sale crap is gone from the shop floor.

I don't need to diet as I very rarely overeat at Christmas, when I eat chocs and goodies I just cut down elsewhere.

Got sucked into a gym membership once and ended up paying for something I didn't have time to attend. Would like to get more fresh air and exerise but can do that for free with a good walk more often which I enjoy.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2011 12:32

I have bought some clothes in "the sales" - online. But I've been looking for a red jumper for ages.

Joined a gym in October (getting darker/colder so not as nice to go and do things outdoors) - not looking forward to it being full of January joiners.

AliBellandthe40jingles · 03/01/2011 12:34

YANBU - January annoys me.

The worst are people who won't eat or drink anything in a normal way because they are 'detoxing'. They are always sanctimonious and vastly irritating, but it all seems pointless when they make no changes for the rest of the year.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2011 12:35

If you have a functioning liver and kidneys there's no need to detox - you're just trying to lose weight by being faddy.

FakePlasticTrees · 03/01/2011 12:48

I have to brave the shops this week - I'm back to work after my maternity leave a week today and I don't fit into most of my work wardrobe. I've been given money and vouchers for Christmas, so I have to go spend them. And I can't shop online as I'm not sure what size I am anymore in lots of shops.

DS is having an introduction to nursery day tomorrow, so i'm dropping him and hitting Bluewater - ideally being there for them to open and leaving again before it gets busy round lunchtime. I can buy a pair of black trousers and a couple of work skirts in less than 2 hours, right?

purepurple · 03/01/2011 12:52

YANBU
I hate shopping at the best of times, there is no way I am going to Next at 5 am. I don't want to lose weight or exercise either, especially not to a Diversity DVD Hmm
I also don't want to buy a new sofa or book a holiday at Butlins.

exexpat · 03/01/2011 13:03

Leaflets I've had through the door in the last day or two have been advertising a local gym, slimming world and a law firm specialising in family law and divorce - I guess they are all in demand after Christmas...

pissovski · 03/01/2011 13:20

made myself go to the sales. I am 5.5 months pg and can't fit into my work pants! New look was quite good and I got a few bargains. I really didn't enjoy it on bit though! Everywhere was like a rugby scrum - i was pleased when i got home!

Hammy02 · 03/01/2011 13:58

TrillionAstra - I read that about detoxing too. Your liver automatically detoxes your body anyway-That's what it's there for! Having said that, I am going to try and cut out the booze for a couple of weeks. Only because I have developed what can only be described as a 'wine-belly'!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/01/2011 15:36

All the magazines are so cyclical, New Year, New You, prep'ing for summer (seriously who doesn't know how to do a pedi at home by now?) then buying the perfect presents and creating the perfect Christmas. It's the same drivel every month, every year, I just cannot read magazines like that anymore!
