to only ever use disposable cutlery/ plates

we're now onto our 5th day with no water.
The downside is being smelly and greasy haired and having to go to the swimming baths to clean ourselves.
The upside is no washing up! I've bought plastic cutlery and paper plates and after every meal they just go in the bin. It's fab! They cost 79 p per 100 for the cutlery and about the same for the plates. It may even be cheaper than washing up or using the dishwasher.
AIBU to continue using disposable even when the water's back on? ( I would dust off real plates for visitors ).

I have heard of people here in America who only use disposable plates and cutlery. The whole thing shocked me but when you are working 60hours or more a week I can see why it happens. I HATE paper plates and plastic cultery but when having a party with more than 12 people we use disposable stuff. I did an experiment with our friends compost and the stuff is gone after 6 months. We however chuck ours in the bin.

YANBU - not very, anyhow. I used to know some rich people who always did this, and I have to admit it was fun to just throw everything away after a meal. You ought to seperate the stuff for recycling, though, and that would be less fun.

Hope you get water soon!

I think it's a good idea occasionally - if u have buffets or are too busy / depressed to wash up. But u can't easily have cereal / soup.

I know a lady who takes disposable crockery / cutlery with her as she is so strictly kosher.
BTW there are now good energy saving versions of 100w available.
Hope your water comes back on soon.

Why use disposable if you're very kosher? ( I'll prepare for a flaming over my lack of knowledge)

The lady i know only uses disposable at other peoples' houses in case their crockery / glassware wasn't kept separate from that used for other food types. Her friends also keep kosher but not so strictly so don't do this.
I'm not jewish + had no idea that kosher rules were so complex (to me).

I remember seeing an advert in America. The woman was fed up with being left to load the dishwasher while her husband and children watched TV. The solution was to use disposable plates and cutlery not to get the family to help her.

I do this when the housework gets on top of me Blush

I like to have a clean house, but sometimes when I'm depressed it all gets too much and this gives me the kick-start I need.
