I want to get sorted and tided now. Kids are back at school next week and I want to get back into the swing of things.

DH says we should leave them for the 12 days of Christmas. But that means they wont come down before the kids start school again!

Am not sure why I get so irritated by people taking down decs so early. Realise rationally it's none of my fecking business. But just as it winds me up that people put their decs UP so early (December 1st or even earlier FFS) it just does really grate. Dunno why.

In my world decs go up a week or less before the 24th (growing up it was on Christmas Eve itself), stay up throughout the TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS (clue in the name) and come down on the evening of Jan 5th. There are also still presents under our tree; DS has had one or two a day so far, and there are enough for at least one for each of the remaining days of Christmas.

I DO understand that sense of looking forward to clearing it all away, spring clean, fresh start stuff. So can reluctantly concede why people like to start Jan 1st with it all away. Still wouldn't though, IMO it's wrong. My spring clean will start Jan 6th.

Wow Octavia, now that's what I call organisation! The leftover presents I mean.

I think I'd go potty if I had the decorations up from the beginning of December. This year mine have been up for three weeks and that is enough.

onmyfeet · 31/12/2010 09:44

I will be doing that on Jan. 2.

Mine are down, unwanted decorations go to the charity shop and I have even washed my kitchen floor for the first time since Dec 20th.

YANBU I really wanted to take mine down the day after boxing day but DH is keen for them to stay up till tomorrow, as I've been totally bah humbug for the last couple of years and not had any up I decided that he could win this one, and besides he's off tomorrow so can do the actual work!

YANBU! Ours came down yesterday and Im off to the tip with tree today (looking very dead now) - I went out and treated myself to new curtains and tie backs yesterday (£20 Dunelm sale!) and my lounge and general house area look so lovely and clean ready for the new year. Just got to sort my cupboards now as they are full off Christmas tat!

I have left the Mistletoe up in a nod to DP who has been in bed since Boxing Day poorly :( if he makes it downstairs for a glass of bubbly tonight Im getting him under it :)

Ours came down on wednesday afer a trip to the ikea sale lol. We got loads of decorating and things to do in the house this year to get it how we want so i wanted them gone.

Dp wanted them up still but realised after we had bought the stuff in ikea sale we had to take them down to sort it all out lol Grin

Mine are coming down tomorrow, but I normally keep the crib up until 12th Night. I can not wait. DD pestered me to put the decorations up early this year (19th Nov!!!) and I am thoroughly sick of them.

SecretNutellaFix · 31/12/2010 15:33

Mine are off the tree and in their tins, the tree can wait till dh gets home and gets the box for me.

tammybear · 31/12/2010 15:35

Took mine down last night, as I was going to my mum's today and my decs stay in her loft, so figured it was just easier. I usually leave them up til the weekend after New Year. However, I did want to taken them down Boxing Day night, but that was probably due to me being all bahhumbugish as DD was at my mum's and DP was at work so I was on me own lol.

YANBU. I love putting the decs up but can't wait to get them down.

Nice decs, but the clutter, the mess, does my head in. 1ST of Jan for me every year, not like we are near family so do anything bar a special dinner, NYD, I just want the bloody decs down by then!
