Sorry I can not do the fancy links ...what do you think of this?

Yes, I read that. Sadly the boy has died so the issue of support won't come up.

However, his parents are suing does it not say? so now it is known that these are his children, surely as next of kin they are the ones who any award would go to?

skyswept · 30/12/2010 20:27

It wasn't his aunt but her partner. Given how his life ended, it was a good thing surely.

chipmonkey · 30/12/2010 20:45

It had a good ending but 15 is not old enough to make such a decision and his aunt shouldn't have allowed it. Probably close to the bone for me as my own ds1 is 14 and nowhere near ready for that sort of responsibility.

HelenaRose · 30/12/2010 22:52

I think that's lovely. It means his aunt gets children which are genetically very close to her as well as her partner.

classydiva · 30/12/2010 22:54

It's not lovely that should anything happen and they split the boy will be financial viable and can be chased by the child support assagency.

I think it is ill thought out and a really bad idea.

Get a sperm donor from a magazine do not use a child to donate.

Tis gross.

HappyHECmanay · 30/12/2010 22:59

the boy is dead now, classydiva. I don't think even the csa is incompetent enough to chase a dead person for money.

It took me YEARS to find the right sperm donor; I got so desperate I considered doing some very not-sensible things.

But involving a teenage boy? No way. Not even over 16.

I think it was exploitive. The parents are understandably pleased they have a lsting rmeinder of their child, but they certainly wouldnt be impressed if they had found out at the time

chipmonkey · 31/12/2010 00:08

mary, supposing you didn't agree? Legally could your 17 year old just go ahead? They can have sex at that age but are they allowed to enter into a contract?

peeringintoafestivevoid this was my first thought too.

That actually, the age of consent only applies in the way most people assume for girls. If the boy had consenting sex with the woman and she had become pregnant then this would be considered legal.

(But if the woman had been under 16 then it would be considered illegal still.)

A little backwards maybe, maybe not. It could open all sort of debates. I think it's much more common for younger girls to have older boyfriends than for boys under 16 to have older girlfriends though.

But I do remember that when I was 16 (not tooooooo long ago. Ok, well a while then) thinking that the legislation was strange with seemingly double standards
