To want some pain relief after my operation

Title sums it up. Had an operation on my legs for varicose vain problems yesterday (not in the uk). Pain awful but just given paracetamol. Doesn't help. Tried to get more pain relief whiilst in hospital but only given nurofen equivelent but didn't do anything.

No help so my dh then had to queue at the hospital in a clinic to see a surgeon and did get a prescription for pain relief but when got it ourselves from a phamarcy on the way home(hospital wouldn't give out medicine) we realised it can't be taken if bf. My dh told the doctor I am bf but it was ignored.
Now I can stand with out my legs feeling like they're on fire. I still can't put any pressure on my left leg. The nurses wouldn't give me crutches at the hospital do my dh went to a&e and found a pair.
Just terrible.
Just needed a rant

truthsweet - gosh that must have been awful. Must have been tough looking after your little ones when you had that. Thank you for the website info - what a great source. Don't know why bf is such a big deal for people - it's normal & everyday. My children have really benefited/benefit from bf.

Truthsweet - very true - bf is so much more than the milk & people don't think of this. It's missed and it is hard on the little ones. My dd, 1yr, went the longest she ever has without bf yesterday & she was happy to see me back plus happy to bf.

Had my appt & the doctor thinks it's the pain I had, after the epidural wore off, that has caused my leg to seize up. Why they didn't give me proper pain relief I don't know.

Also - No respect here for bf - don't know why as it's an ordinary thing to be doing. I had to say it's a unicef baby friendly hospital, the WHO supports bf until 2yrs,All for my 1yr old & 3yr old.

The doctor tried to fob me off with it's all in your mind as well - wtf - I can't bend my knee or walk on my leg at all. That's 21st century medicine here in Belgium

Sorry to hear you are still getting crap from the Drs - that's terrible treatment! But good on you for standing up for your nurslings - it's one thing to wean when you/child wants to it's another to wean because Dr can't be bothered to give correct meds.

just checking in again to see how you're doing dessen, was thinking about you earlier. Unbelievable about that doctor. What are they going on about with this 'all in your mind' pain crap? I'm so sorry to hear this.

Truthsweet - good call about making our own weaning decisions, not just because an archaic dr removes that decision for you

Also d, how's your poorly DCs doing?

I hope you're all getting better, what a time you're all having.

Thanks dessen. Sorry to hear that you didn't manage to get through to the drs today - I can't believe that seeing you in the flesh they still disputed the pain you are in - I really hope things improve for you soon. Not sure about the bf/drugs thing but if you can, alternating pain killers is good, eg. taking both diclofenac and paracetamol, but staggered. So diclofenac at 8am, 1pm, 6pm and paracetamol at 10am, 3pm, 9pm. You have to be careful though that the drugs are from different groups (so don't combine 2 sorts of NSAIDs - these include diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin). Give the strongest painkiller an hour or so to kick in, then try and walk on it.
Not looking forward to sclerotherapy one bit, dr claims can return to work the same day (his actual words was that it was just like going to the dentists). Well, we shall see Hmm

Thank you KatieSantaPawsKitty - I don't get the all in the mind crap either. I can't understand why they don't give out pain relief.
brooker9 - thank you for your reply and info. Asked if I was anxious - wtf. Just unbelievable.
I did get a prescription for pain relief - continue with the 1 Apranax 550 every 12hrs, Contramal 50mg (tramadol) every 6hrs and Paracetamol 1g - every 6hrs and to alternate them so every 3hrs I'm taking something.
Why this wasn't sorted out on tuesday I don't know. Still can't put pressure on leg as it doesn't hold my weight. Not through pain but just doesn't do it. Will see how it goes.
Good luck with the sclerotherpy - like going to the dentist!! Well for starters that can bloody hurt. Just hope it will be ok for you after what you've been through
