If you are not UD and have said dinner when referring to a meal eaten around midday Unquiet Dad is going to come on here soon and kick your proletarian arse.

Be ready Grin

Paradis · 28/12/2010 21:03

I had some LOVELY stichelton today.

westlake · 28/12/2010 21:10

I wouldn't take a pudding, I would bake a cake like ginger cake that can be put away for another say, or eaten with coffee later in the evening

MrsMooo · 28/12/2010 21:16

Joni Lord knows /tangent
It comes up with some v.v.random things at times, and always capitalises the word White for some reason.. Some strange apple logic obviously

If you like cheese, check out www.thecheesegig.com and damn my friends and family for not taking me seriously when I ask for gift vouchers!

On the cheese note, surely the cheese board comes after the dessert/sweet course not instead of?

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 28/12/2010 21:30

OP - YABVVVVU

Any pudding (especially Bannoffee Pie) or a cheeseboard, actually come to think of it, most food would be warmly received in this house.

Just as long as I don't have to prepare it.Wink

MsKLo · 28/12/2010 22:03

if anyone has a good recepie for it, inbox me with it! lol

Lonnie · 28/12/2010 22:20

bluecardi · 28/12/2010 22:23

What was the main course?

ivykaty44 · 28/12/2010 22:26

wine is what you take to a dinner party - the host should cook all the food for each course

Good god, you don't like Banoffee pie? And there are people here who don't like cheesecake? What is wrong with you?

I will say though, shop-bought versions of these desserts are frequently quite vile. If you're talking a 2 for £2 labelled box, then YANBU at all. Cheap puds taste just that.

Also, Stilton is the pits. Bleurgh. And I have never seen the appeal of a cheese board. Mind you, that could be because my sweet tooth has its own sweet tooth. Give me chocolate truffle cake any day. Or blancmange. Mmmmmm...

GrimmaTheNome · 28/12/2010 22:38

We get white stilton here with apricots or cranberries in it. It's OK I suppose.

Oh no it isn't! Bleurghh. No cheese should have fruit in it. (you can eat fruitcake with Wensleydale, or grapes with cheese, or - obviously - chutneys etc, but they should not be sold combined). Or any vegetable except garlic, or sage leaves in Sage Derby.

TottWriter · 28/12/2010 22:44

Grimma - I used to work for M&S and they sell, wait for it... cheese with bits of pineapple in. I mean, what the hell?

Mind you, I am very dull when it comes to cheese. I stick to cheddar and variants, and mascarpone and mozzarella.(sp?) Don't even like parmesan much. To me, cheese is a sandwich filling or something you cook with.

Gateau · 28/12/2010 23:02

I would be bringing you feck all.

Shodan · 28/12/2010 23:10

At least it wasn't fresh fruit salad.

My heart always sinks when someone chirrups that they've brought a 'Lovely fresh fruit salad'.

Don't get me wrong, I like fruit, but a pudding should be sweet and sticky to the point where cream is the least rich part of the bowlful.

BelleDameSansMerci · 28/12/2010 23:13

You take your life in your hands making a real banoffee pie - you have to be careful that a tin of condensed milk doesn't explode.

So, your guests (assuming they didn't try to pass off some ghastly imitation) risked a good saucepan and their kitchen walls to bring you pudding and you would prefer cheese? Odd. You may not be being unreasonable but you are definitely odd.

jonicomelately · 28/12/2010 23:16

Belle. You can buy ready-made toffee (from condensed milk)now. It's utterly divine.

CheerfulYank · 28/12/2010 23:22

PMSL at "something annoying that is not American..." We are an interesting bunch, aren't we? :) But it's not American; I've never heard of it. Oh wait, didn't Keira Knightley mention it in Love Actually?

Then I have. :)

BelleDameSansMerci · 28/12/2010 23:23

No, no, it's not the same... If you don't go through the pain and fear, how can you take the glory? Xmas Grin

UnderTheRadar2212 · 28/12/2010 23:26

I'm really wanting Stilton with cranberries or pineapple in it now - thanks you lot! I hate chocolate/sweet puddings anyway :(

cupofcoffee · 28/12/2010 23:28

I find bannoffee pie awful so I'm with you on that one. However YABU. Tastes vary and I would be happy with whatever guests brought round even if not to my personal taste.
(unless was a very close friend/relative who knew of a particular hated item and did it in some kind of passive aggressive way Wink )

jonicomelately · 28/12/2010 23:29

You are a sadist Belle Wink

ThisIsYourSong · 28/12/2010 23:33

Waitrose do the yummiest white Stilton with mango, rum and ginger. I'm not a huge fan of rum but I love this.

DreamTeamGirl · 28/12/2010 23:49

Love the fact that American's on MN are now just putting their hands up and saying
'Yep that'll be American. Yep thaa'll be our fault' before anyone even blames them now

So well trained and saves SUCH a lot of work in the long-term ;)

Good work chaps!!!!

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 29/12/2010 00:03

Yesterday I was introduced to the delicacy that is "Wensleydale with Terry's Chocolate Orange chunks"..... Being a lover of all manner of fruity cheeses I was rather excited at the prospect of the chocolate/ cheese combo ..... but it was pretty disappointing.
